Couples Retreat (2009)

The wives are practically props

This movie is ostensibly about four marriages, but the men are the main characters and the wives are mostly macguffin props. This must have been written, produced, and/or cast by the male actors, because all four of the women are way more attractive than all four men. Furthermore, the men are frequently hit on by other resort guest characters half their age.

Despite multiple conversations between the women, this movie fails the Bechdel test, because they never talk about anything but their men or their relationships with the men.

Despite being a comedy, this movie is not funny. Despite being a love story?, there's no love.

Happy Death Day 2U (2019)

Plot threads dropped left and right

The movie started out interesting, putting a minor character from the first movie into the same time-repeating predicament as the original movie. Then it threw a new twist in (which I won't spoil). I was enjoying it but then the movie completely dropped that entire storyline and did something different for the rest of the movie. The entire first 30 minutes of the movie was rendered almost completely pointless. I read an interview and the director said he did that on purpose "to mislead the audience." The point of making a movie is not to mislead the audience, it is to entertain them or give them something to think about or scare them or trigger their emotions. This movie did none of those things.

There are many aspects of both the first and even the second plot lines that are just thrown in there and never explained or explored.

DJ Cinderella (2019)

Dubbed voices are terrible

The English voice actors they used to dub this are terrible. The kind of dubbing that gives dubbing its bad reputation.

The only reason I didn't give this one star was that my 9 year old daughter enjoyed watching it.
