A Haunting in Venice (2023)
Disappointing, sums it up.
Great actors and great acting.
I loved the first two in the series, Orient Express and Murder on the nile, but this was a lacklustre adaptation...
Hard to put a finger on it, but just boring. Never really got me interested.
And Kenneth Branagh, as I usually love, not at his best. Felt forced.
The star of this was honestly the kid playing Leopold. Hope he keeps up acting, that kid will be going places.
Beautiful scenes and location though. Well filmed, a bit obviously "artsy" at places but that works in this. Can't fault cinematographer or set designers. Just the script and Mr branagh that fell short.
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023)
Fun action not taking itself too serious
"Not enough jokes", "guy ritchies worst"
Not sure what people here are on about?
Great 2h spent. Nice action. Statham being Statham. Plaza always there with her quirky style.
People complaining about not enough jokes when Aubrey Plaza is in it? What's wrong with people? ;)
Hugh Grant is having a great revival the last few years. This movie, dungeons and dragons, the gentleman. Better fit than romcons for him.
Better than most Mission Impossible. If you're gonna do unrealistic action, don't take yourself too seriously.
This a Good action, good humour. Perfect balance of cheeky and cool.
Waiting for the sequel!
Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)
Best Netflix special in a decade
See title.
Weird, quirky, honest, ridiculously creative and fun.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Great acting, great production
Surprising piece of TV.
Never heard of it, didn't expect much from a show about chess, from the screaming girl from Split and the boy character I disliked in GoT.
But someone mentioned I should take a look and probably one of the best shows of 2020.
The cinematography is great, the props team have made an amazing effort and acting is damn good all through.
If this doesn't take Anya Taylor-Joy places there's something wrong with the World.
If this had been a movie I'd say it's Oscar worthy.
If I were to complain about something is the predictable script. But that goes for 95% of everything so...
CSI: NY: Unspoken (2012)
Worst episode ever...
Good idea...that the writers/director absolutely didn't pull off.
If you're going to remove one of the mediums that guides the story forward. You better be really sure that the other ones do a good job. This, in my opinion, was a big fail.
Story not thought through, the "silent" parts not greatly executed (feels like a chopped up music video) and half way through they give up anyway. If you're gonna go artistic, at least go all the way...
And if you want to skip the dialog, at least let the actors act out emotion through other sounds. Just adding music doesn't give emotion. I think that if we could have heard breathes, crying, or anything else than sound effects and half played songs it would have worked better.
Now, they just project the image that they lost the first half of the actors sound recordings and instead of getting the actors back for a sound booth recording they just saved time and pretended to do something "artsy" instead.
