Murder, She Wrote: Night of the Tarantula (1989)
Season 6, Episode 7
1/10
One of the worst MSW episodes ever
19 March 2023
If the season 4 episode "Indian Giver" wasn't quite offensive enough, we get this little gem of an episode. Between completely inaccurate depictions of Voodoo, which is an acutal religion, the casting of a white American actress as a biracial Jamaican (complete with brown face and terrible accent that sometimes sounds vaguely southern?), there's also the two American actors with God awful French accents as well. The plot itself isn't that interesting. The person you think is going to die does (hint: it's the most odious character), and the "big clue" that points to who the murderer is ends up being extremely obvious. This one can definitely be skipped over.

Style over Substance

This film is stunning, but that's about it. It's a good 45 min-1 hour too long. The fact that there are several scenes that just linger on a single shot for minutes on end add to this. The director has taken out elements of the original story and then added in others (such as from whom Gawain receives his sash.) As a result of this, the film is nonsensical.

Overall enjoyable version

I won't go over the plot as if you've read the book or seen any of the other 100 versions out there, you know what happens. The acting was great, particularly Florence Pugh, who has given us maybe the only version of Amy that is likeable. The things I didn't enjoy about this film were the extreme time jumps back and forth, which became confusing at certain points, and Timothee Chalomet. He's a good actor, but he has the face of a 12 year old, and that became incredibly distracting when he was trying to romance actresses that look about 15 years older than him.

Some of the best parts of Bones, and some of the worst
26 January 2019
There were parts of this episode that I enjoyed. Loren Dean is one of my favorite recurring characters on Bones, and I enjoyed Brennan's interactions with Booth and the team. However, I can't rate this episode any higher because as another rater mentioned, the elements of the trial are ridiculous. Also, Caroline is one of my least favorite characters on this entire show, and I can't any scene she is in.

Best Transformers movie, but...
26 December 2018
Yes, this is the best Transformers movie, but the others are such trainwrecks, that isn't saying much. If we judge this movie on its own merits, and not in comparison to the others that came before it, it's...okay. Not great, not terrible. The soundtrack, and scenery are great, but the dialogue is incredibly cheesy in places, and the CG effects of the Decepticons was underwhelming.

OK, but clichéd
11 September 2016
This movie is like the color beige. Inoffensive, but nothing to get excited about. If you enjoy the kind of movies they show on "The Hallmark Channel," then you'll probably enjoy this. The best thing I can say about this film is that I didn't hate it. There were several things about this movie that were pretty bad. The dialogue seems as though it's trying to be funny, but the jokes just fall flat. Second, the two leads had zero chemistry together. They seemed more like brother and sister then potential love interests. Third, the over the top characters. The ex-husband is so bad it's almost funny (but not intentionally so). Lastly there is the stupidity of the main character. I find it hard to believe that even if she had never been to church before, the main character had never heard of a bible study group. I gave this movie 2 stars because while it isn't bad, I did manage to finish watching it.
