Divorced or Not, It Makes for Good Discussion.
1 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
If you're not a child of divorce, or a statistics lover - you probably won't find this movie amusing or intuitive. However, if you are a child of divorce, or if you have a child that is, I fully recommend that you use this movie as a recreational/educational/developmental tool for dialogue and discussion.

There is a lot in this movie. With in the main plot and subplots there are intricacies and dichotomies waiting to be dissected. More than just divorce is covered, but it is covered from the perspective of the child whose parents are divorced - so the viewer sympathizes with them.

James, the main boy, has the best insight when he says to Karen that he liked the club (for children of divorce) that they had better before it became a club with a mission, "when it was just a place to talk." Children need outlets, and specifically James' and Sam's cases explain what happen when children have a lack of communication with their parents.

Not Bad for a Rainy Day
27 July 2006
I've seen worse. I bought this movie for $2.00 at a garage sale because Sandra Bullock was on the cover and she's one of my favorite actresses. I watched it today because it rained - and on a rainy day you need something mindless to do.

While this movie was only worth the $2.00 that I paid for it, it did keep my interest for its entirety, which is more than I can say for some more recent movies. While the acting in some scenes was overdone, the sentiment between the characters was developed nicely.

If 'Remember the Titians' and 'West Side Story' had a baby, and then the baby fell on its head - it might appear as something like 'Who Shot Pat?'

Corporate America movie equivalent to rotting carcass
2 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Everyone ends up happy. The daughter is happy because she is a complete selfish nitwit who seduces business majors with her bad music and poor decorating. The old guy is happy because his daughter cares enough about him to quit sleeping with his boss, although, ironically doesn't care enough about him to quit going pouring his money down the drain. The mom is happy cause she has another daughter who can sleep with the old guys boss in about 20 more years when they remake this movie. The other daughter is happy because she doesn't really exist. The young guy is happy because he kicked corporate ass while making one of himself; simultaneously while never ceasing to exercise - proving that American's corporate youth are as anxious to get to the gym as they are to Wall Street.

The only person who didn't end up happy was - me.   The movie climaxed, (after the random sex scene) and then about 30 minutes after climax the credits came. I was not only sad and confused, but I was in need of a refund.

I was in good company with my friends by my side - wish I could say the same about Topher and Dennis.

Typical, but swoon for the accented men
11 April 2004
When looking for love, go to Wisconsin. Race some lawnmowers, and chowdown with the fam of the girl that has stolen your heart.

Or, if you aren't the Prince of Denmark, you could just go see this film. I liked it, I loved, I certainly wanted more of it, and to do that I just have to go home, pop in some Kate Hudson, or Drew Barrymore to get my fix. As far as actual rating of the movie goes: it's worth a look. If only to see the upcoming talents of Luke Mably with that delicious accent and divine smile.

Julia Stiles delivers a decent performance and their on screen chemistry will keep you interested. The 2 hours flies by rather quickly and if anything it's entertaining, light-hearted, and worthy of the latest girls' night out romp on the town.

As for you collegiate folks, you'll be happy to know that the size of the dorm room is realistic, the laundry room is not where laundry is done, and the food area belongs only on a movie set. Best part of the film: Seeing Luke in boxers/ worst part of the film: Watching Luke cry...

Makes me want to dance
11 April 2004
Perhaps it was because I saw this movie with an Australian bloke, and a New England lady that we found this so wonderful, but probably it was just because we couldn't stop laughing/singing/and dancing in the aisles.

This movie has moved to the top of my list of movies to buy when they come out on DVD. Much to the typical plot line of romantic comedy/musical film, this movie incorporated elements of action/suspense/and horror, much to our moving viewing delight. I predict that this is the Must-See-Movie of the pre-summer rush. Take your children, take your grandmother, take your college roommate, none will be disappointed.

But do be prepared for Cary Elwes to be the evil villain, although it broke my heart, I'm sure yours will remain intact. Best part of the movie: the elves/ Worst part of the movie: that it wasn't longer.
