Vilambaram (2019)
People without desire give birth to baby and name it Hippo
There is a saying in Tamil, 'Venda verupukku pillaya pethu, Gaanda mirugamnu peru vechangalam' which means, without any desire you give birth to a child nd name it Hippopotamus. Similarly, this movie starts on happy note, there is really no reason for all the tragedy that happens in the second half. Wasted great talents like Aishwarya Rajesh and Thambi Ramayya. May be the producer had too much money, they shot the movie in Malaysia. Why Aishwarya Rajesh comes to the picture, and why one more character comes into the picture and gives negativity, and at last, could not understand why such a tragic end was planned all of a sudden.
Mangalavaaram (2023)
Beautifully made worst movie
A movie that needs to be put into trash bin straightaway. A case to justify free casual unsafe sex. Those who watch this movie may use the medical terminology to justify not controlling their sexual desire. Have never seen such a trash, the whole village is into Extra Marital Affair and one girl who could not control is made to look with empathy. Totally horrible script. Those who enjoy soft porn may have given good review for this movie. Definitely not recommended for children, youngsters, middle agers and old aged people. If you get a chance to watch this movie, please skip such chance and do something useful instead.
Kooman (2022)
Waah, an unexpected story
Jeethu Joseph is one of a kind director, after watching Dhrishyam and Dhrishyam 2, this movie is yet another police related investigation thriller. The movie moves on like any other Malayalam movie, with slow building up of tension and picking up of pace towards the end. But I never expected the twist at the beginning. It talks about what a man would do to satisfy his ego. Every actor did their part well, especially Asif Ali. After watching Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Action Hero Biju this movie gives indepth coverage into the lives of Police officers and how ego could be an important aspect of a police officer .
Chocobar (2016)
Watchable with Kindergarten kids with Parental guidance
My kids and me absolutely enjoyed the movie. The cameraman beautifully captured the gorgeous heroine sleeping in her bed, walking to the door, to the restroom and change her costume.
The movie is inspiring me to buy a house like the one shown. Every room in the house is beautiful. I especially liked the groundfloor where a big piano was set. The mirrors and the statues only added to the beauty of the house.
The production team has reduced cost by giving only one costume to the hero. Though several costumes were used for the heroine, the lenght of the trousers is kept short. It was fitting nicely. It gave me inspiration to buy such casuals.
Every room in the house is painted well.
Production team also reduced cost by giving only the sound of cat and not using a real cat or CGI.
Overall we had lot of fun making fun of the heroine and the hero. My kindergarten kids who usually run away if shown a scary movie, sat with me and saw through the whole movie and asked me when the ghost will come
I think some scenes were edited because it is a feature film and not something that you will watch in p*rn movies.
Kolai (2023)
Wonderful psychotic detective story
This movie is meant for those who can watch slow and beautiful movies. If you are a fan of Vikram 2, KGF 2, RRR type of tush tush gun movies, you will not like it.
This is one of the best movies I have seen in the recent past. The scenes were spectacular to watch and the movie had a wonderful plot.
I was kept at the edge of the seat until near the climax. The creativity of the director is to be much appreciated.
Meenakshi Chowdry is beautiful. Rithika Singh is much of an empathetic police officer. Vijay Antony carries the movie in most part. Some scenes were expected but as mentioned in the begining of the movie, it were taken from public domain work.
I am very happy with this movie.
Raangi (2022)
Raangi is Wrongy
Raangi starts off with a good note of introducing Trisha as a bold woman journalist. The one line of the film is absolutely amazing. But, everything else that happens afterwards are cringeworthy and should not be considered as a model to be followed. Impersonating a teenager, putting a teenager at risk of getting victimized by social network cybercriminals, taking a teenager to places of danger without letting her know the exact reason, asking a teenage girl to strip naked without letting her know the reason are some of the things I am shocked to see in this movie. Such directors should be banned and stopped from making anymore movies.
Also, the film does not know its core message, is it about Teenager problems, supporting Zealots, or justifying romancing with kids. At last when the lead character cries, we can only laugh.
The Family Man (2019)
Not the ideal one to understand cultures
The series portrays people of different cultures in bad light. Series is taken based on their inbuilt perceptions than reality in most cases. Would have loved to see Aiswarya Rajesh with her natural dark skin for the Tamil comrade role but director went with fair skinned Samantha.
Draupathi (2020)
Deserves a Negative rating
The whole point of making this movie itself is to encourage violence among the different ethnic groups in Tamil Nadu. The plot is based on the subject, that all those who get into inter caste love marriage with a girl of higher caste, is for their money. Bad cinematography, bad morals and bad execution. Whole second half is boring.
Hero (2019)
There is no Zero rating available for Hero
This movie was spoken to be a sequel to super hit film "Gentleman" which had a theme, that talented youngsters with high marks are not getting seats due to reservation. Now since there is 10% reservation given to economically backward OC, the theme in Hero is changed to "Marks does not count as talent"
The whole point of saying, "Aspiring to become a doctor or engineer is of selfish motive, but to become a super hero is of public interest" does not go well with reality. So, does the director want the people to give away education and work on becoming a super hero without marks is a big question. It is kind of saying, "British education system has made us slaves, so let us go back to Kulakalvi and learn only one profession and leave education to particular segment of the society alone"
The heroes of this film both Arjun and Sivakarthikeyan advocating for a new education curriculum, do not indulge in any legal works, but complains that the current education system has not taught good manners, morals and confidence. Students without basic understanding of science are able to create any machinery is unacceptable. While the whole state of Tamil nadu is protesting against NEET, the antagonist is running a college which does not take NEET into account for medical seats.
Some of the activities of the thugs of the antagonists are totally stupid and nowhere near to reality.
Stunts are very normal, not like what you would expect in a superhero movie. And that too comes very late in the movie.
And the heroine is not necessary for this movie.
Sathuran (2015)
Definitely worth a watch
This is one of such movies which should have received a far better reception at the box office. It is a highly suspenseful and thrilling movie which you can watch with your family. First half is focused on the life of the hero, who is an auto driver and his fateful meeting with the heroine who is a beautician. There is another track of murders and conspiracies going on in the medical field. How these to tracks merge is the rest of the story. Second half is mostly running, escaping and finding the reason for the murders. The hero is a well known actor from the movie "Moodar Koodam" and the heroine is a Nazria look alike Tik Tok sensation. These sort of actors should be appreciated and given a chance in many films.
Kattappava Kanom (2017)
Aquatic themed movie with rational thought process
We should really appreciate the thought behind naming each character in the movie with the name of a fish or aquatic animal in Tamil. Hero Pandy (King Pandian's symbol if fish), heroine - Meena, Comedy actor -Nandu, Villain Vanjiram, Supporting roles: Sheela, Sura, Aali,Sankara, Kayal.
The film revolves around the so called vasthu fish. Whether the fish really brings luck or not is what the whole film is all about. This is the best film so far by Sibiraj. The role suited him very much. Being brought up by an atheist dad in real life, this role is tailor made for him. And Aiswarya Rajesh, what a women she is, totally out of this earth. In Kaaka Muttai we saw her as a parent of two boys, and here as a modern girl, she has made every youngster to skip a heartbeat. The film is pleasing to the eyes and the song "Hey Penne Penne!" and "Kangal suttrum" are worth a place in your playlist. It is a perfect entertainer with lot of insights in to the business of vasthu astrology.
Kaashmora (2016)
Good entertainment and Social awareness movie
Believe me, the money and time that you spend on watching this movie is not going to be wasted. This movie deserves a much better review than what most of the critics have given. The first half of the movie showcases the dark reality of the so called Godmen of this time, while the second half shows the virtual imagination of the magical fantasy. All the actors have done their part well, especially Karthik and Nayanthara. Not to mention the usual religious critical comedies of Vivek and crew. The drawback in the film is the video game type scenes at the end, which could have been much better.
Wonder Park (2019)
Movie that builds intelligence, perseverance and love among Kids
I was searching for movies that would motivate my daughters to develop skills, such as building stuff, etc. I came across this movie and was more than delighted. The protagonist in this movie is a small girl named June. Oh my God! what an intelligent, responsible and loving child she is. The movie would certainly help your child to develop social skills,Inventional mindset and love for their parents. Though most of the movies with kids with scientific brains are shown to be male kids, this movie shows that girls are and can equally have creative thinking in terms of science and technology.
Kadaikutty Singam (2018)
Casteist Movie
Except for few dialogues, the movie does not really talk about farmers as claimed by many positive reviewers.
In a time when Cola companies are identified to have destroying the farming in Tamil Nadu, the heroine is depicted as the owner of a cola company. As usual the rich man in the village is portrayed as the hero, who does not get affected in any means as a normal farmer. A low caste man's life is taken away but life of two bulls is given the utmost importance for revenge. What is the point in showing a heroine of the same caste, hero trying to convince the family to marry a girl from same caste? Where is basic human rights? Its a whole lot of Tamil Mega serial second half, with choices of marrying one or two girls from same family or marrying a girl from same caste.
Importance is given for fair skin, wealth, caste
Importance not given for human life, farmers plight, intercaste marriages
Aarudhra (2018)
Child abuse awareness movie that objectifies women
In the name of providing awareness about child abuse, the director have abused the female characters which are totally unnecessary for the movie. Also the characters of Bhaggyaraj (detective) and his assistant were made to look like flirtatious for no reason. All the female characters have been dressed in a way of exposing their body. Otherwise it is a normal revenge story with little bit of child abuse awareness talks in between. Totally waste
Kaala Koothu (2018)
Starts, continues and ends with mourning
This movie is for people who love to watch others cry or feel pity about themselves. The movie at the end talks about not allowing others to live their lives. But from the beginning of the movie, there were several deaths around the main character of this movie, which are not really necessary for the central theme of the movie. Adding to this at regular intervals you would see something to feel sad about. Without the end note by the director, the film would look like it supports honor killing and race (caste) dominant thinking and male dominance at several places.
