I had to stop watching this movie, and then I went back to it the next day only because I wanted to know how this movie progressed. The whole plot could not be predicted however I could tell from the trailer this movie would be about cannibalism. I had no idea it would be so graphic and disturbing. The acting at best was just ok. The scenes were obviously art-focused and driven. I agree with the other reviewer about normalizing this display of clearly disturbing psychological drama. I question the screenwriter, and the director about what their goal was with this film. Obviously they were portraying a book but I just feel like it could have been done in a more tasteful manner.

Insecure all over again

If I wanted to see Issa typecasted I would have asked to see insecure. Lakeith and Issa have no on screen chemistry and whoever wrote that is lying to themselves and doesn't know what real love looks like. I was often confused about where the characters were but it wasn't too difficult to follow. There were good intentions behind this script but it just didn't do it for me and I love black love stories. This appeared to want to be a modern love jones but it was lacking so much.

Although I appreciate the director highlighting the lifestyles of Vincent and Theodore Van Gogh I found the entire film to be extremely disturbing. That was probably the point. I happened to catch a clip of the film on my way out of the door. I am glad I made a point of going back to watch the entire film from the start to finish however I don't know if I can just recommend anyone watching the film due to the disturbing content. It made me wonder if mental illness is common with Dutch European lines honestly.
