Act of Valor (2012)
Decent Action/War Movie
I'm a bit hesitant to class this movie as a 'War Movie', Saving Private Ryan is a war movie, this is more of a military themed action movie.
I quite enjoyed this movie. It had a lot of really good action scenes and some great shoot-outs. I heard before I watched it that most of the cast were real-life Marines, so I wasn't expecting any great acting from them, but I was surprised. The acting was good, and convincing.
A few thing I didn't like about this movie: it did start to seem a little far-fetched. I just thought the movie was going to be these Marines rescuing a CIA agent, so when they ended up going and flattening a terrorist plot, I was a little surprised. Another thing I didn't like (and this happens in any movie with gun-fights), was that these 'highly trained Marines' sometimes couldn't aim. They just seemed to be shooting at nothing, and took forever to hit a target. For instance, when they were driving away in the truck after recovering the CIA agent.
But despite these reasonably small issues, Act of Valor was a great action film, and recommended to anyone who is a fan of military movies or anyone who just enjoys a good action flick.
The Cable Guy (1996)
Jim Carrey is top of his class.
I've always been a Carrey fan, so when I stumbled upon this while DVD hunting at a local video store, naturally I bought it. I was not disappointed.
Jim Carrey was made for the role of Chip Douglas. His acting in this movie is all but un-paralleled. He really shows us what he is capable of in the acting department.
If Jim Carrey can be said to be one of those actors where you either love him or hate him, then the same can be said for this movie. It has a very particular type of often quite dark humor in it, which doesn't appeal to a lot of people, but in which Carrey thrives.
If you didn't like this movie, give it another watch. You might change your mind.
This movie is a must for any Carrey fan, or any fan of good 90's comedy. Ben Stiller does a fantastic job directing, and the rest of the cast supports Carrey's role brilliantly.
10/10
(Also, I heard that the Chip Douglas role wasn't originally intended for Carrey, but after watching it, can you honestly picture anyone else executing it so damn well??)
