Sadly - A Misfire
22 October 2023
I wanted this to work. I saw the reviews and the box office wasn't great for them. I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. I LOVE Paul Rudd's work, truly. (See him in Murders in the Building this last season - so much fun) I couldn't even make it thru the first quarter of the movie. I kept trying to see - what's the problem? I think too many writer/chefs in the kitchen was the problem? The writing wasn't great. The arc of the story wasn't great. It seemed forced. And, the plot - well, just wasn't sustinable. Maybe the movie gets better? I couldn't do it, so I don't know! I make myself a promise now - if they don't 'have me' by 20 mins in, at least enuf to see what happens - I turn it off. Better faire is to be had, so much good and great content out there streaming. Maybe, as is the case, it was how it was edited and maybe the Director didn't have enuf input to make a tight pic. It wasn't your normal Marvel superhero fast moving and well done movie. They needed Taika to direct this one. '-) His Thor, just wow. I don't fault the actors, they gave okay enough performances. Some mis-casts I thought. It's tough when the script isn't great. It just is. I can't recommend even trying this movie. Not even for the Paul Rudd factor.

If you haven't ... RUN to Hulu to see. GENIUS comedy, Incredibly Acted
22 October 2023
If you loved The Favourite written by the talented Tony McNamara that won Olivia Colman her Oscar ... then you will love this show. Flat out guaranteed! Same twisted version of a history (it portends 'sorta' based on a true story '-) and, same writer at the helm. I am a writer and I don't care for average words thrown onto a page when better and well-crafted dialogue can be written. The script alone in this show, is stunningly GOOD. The actors get to start with that - then their diverse talents REALLY bring it home to a rapid paced delivery sometimes I can't even keep up with, their emotional life behind those words is magnificent. Nicholas Hoult is a wicked Peter. Elle Fanning knocks the socks of Catherine. Together - the chemistry is like wildfire. Passionate, hateful, resenting, entitled and so so sexy. The supporting players every single one, many of whom I was unfamiliar as most are British - and I suspect from the theatre in England - they just jump on board this fast-moving period piece and no one, NO one misses a beat. I wish it could have gone on longer and I savored each episode, but they knew when to call it and the whole arc of all the seasons really is fantastic in the last season. Watch and re-watch again, my recommend.

A WONDERFUL Surprise! Full of Heart xoxo
22 October 2023
You can hardly go wrong with Ben Kingsley, I mean... (if you haven't seen Perpetual Grace online - a very diff flavor, but see). This little movie that could. Had seen the trailer not sure, but banked on I love Ben's work! It was a day I could really use a lift. So, took a gamble. Well - WELL - it was wonderful!!! (listen, I am a tough critic - ha ha - very little pleases me in movies and shows, so if I actually hurrah about one - it has to pass thru tough standards!!! ) I wasn't sure they could pull off the premise - but they TOTALLY did! Its Jules character - not sure how much was digitally generated - but really pulled at the heartstrings! Jade Quon did an amazing job. It is a story you really want to root for. And, what a lovely surprise to see Jane Curtain's work again! Regardless how you feel about beings from outerspace - that's not a spoiler - it's in the trailer, see this feel good, sweet film.

OMG Cohen Bros meet Smokey the Bear
22 October 2023
Well, I was stunned at the non-stop top notch directing, editing, writing and acting in this film. I had seen the trailer. I don't watch horror or gore (well - usually, ha ha. There's always FARGO) - but this film took me by surprise! Like, really by surprise. SO MUCH FUN. (umm, Joe Bob Briggs bloody bucket warning...) Funny like this is really hard to do, folks. Trust me! It is a delicate balance and to GET that on film all cast has to play on the same plane. The Directors did an outstanding !!!! Job of crafting the feel they wanted. Genre perfect. So loved, so recommend if you like horror, if you like tounge-in-cheek, if you like Cohen Bros and certainly if you like Margo Martindale (who doesn't?!) A perfect role for her.

Enthralling with zero "hype"
16 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this doc, and totally dont find most to be any more than hype that is intended to hook your interest. THIS is different - it interviews BOTH scientists and "believers". I loved the interview w the sheriff - who is so real, this isnt something he believed in yet changed his life!

THE ENDING i wonderful I think about the chap who had cancer, and it made a difference in his life TOO, his experience. You can say whatever your wnt about "man in a suit" but, cmon - this man is still alive after stage 4 deadly cancer.

THIS doc made me feel - the Sasquatch - chooses YOU. And for a reason.

Never saw it presented this way before. Thumbs up, cant wait for Part TWO!
