Continuum: Last Minute (2014)
Ep-3.13 mini recap: Kiera & Brad, Liber8 & Robo Warriors
Big Spectacular Finale. Season-3 drops on Netflix July 24th. Get caught up before season 4.
Like a finely tuned "Sting", the gang, now composed of Kiera & Carlos, Red Alec and Emily and the remnant of Liber8 (Travis, Lucas & Garza), all join up to switch out Green (Piron) Alec for Red (Sadtech) Alec. Everything goes as planned with just one little hitch, Green Alec escapes his captors to later confront Red Alec in a fight to the finish.
Kellog is scheming a hostile corporate takeover of Piron, but his efforts may not amount to much after the space marines or robo warriors show up and suck up all the power from the city. Corporations are not designed to function without elevators or by candle light.
The Rastafarian Traveler knew it was coming and tells his sidekick Curtis Chen "It has begun".
Whatever has begun, it's not the same Continuum next season as it was before in the past three seasons.
Lots of Action-Adventure, of course, fistfight brawls between Kiera-Liber8 and the Piron security, death struggle of the Alecs, tension of Garza's sniper setup. Various loose threads for plot lines next season: Lucas and Liber8 set up housekeeping in Catherine's empty labs space with the time machine in it and assorted future tech. Who is Rasta-Mon? What does it mean, robo invaders from some other timeline?
Continuum: The Dying Minutes (2014)
Spoilers, Mini Recap: Setting up the Season-3 Finale
The twelfth of thirteen episodes sets up for the cliffhanger episode. Kiera has now paired up with time traveler Brad Tonkins, both lost in a timeline which has unpleasant consequences for their futures. Tonkins, we learn, killed Kiera (Green Kiera) as collateral damage while lying in wait for Alec Sadler with mentor and partner Curtis Chen. In this episode we are shown Chen revived by some wizardlike person laying on of hands in the Guardians stronghold of Catherine's cell. We are informed that this is the Time Traveler Prime, who has gone back 1,000 years with technology inside him to set up the Guardians as Catherine calls her group.
The "timing" is off, as words on the screen show that "three months ago" Chen was revived, which coincides with his arrival from Brad Tonkin's time "12 weeks ago", bringing Tonkins back after training him. Chen was told on revival that he was gone for "months", but he was killed in 2012 season 1, episode 3, two+ years ago. Chen was told that he was "merged" which bothers him as a "violation". I guess he takes the violation seriously because he kills Catherine and the last surviving Guardian after Kiera & Brad storm the Guardians stronghold to liberate Red Alec from captivity. Chen liberates the wizard-guy from a private dungeon where Catherine has imprisoned him.
Sonya Valentine meanwhile prepares a sabotage for Piron's Halo, a digital virus which creates a super-fear response to Halo wearers. She is captured leaving Piron and taken to the precinct where Dillon gloats. Her capture was part of her plan, which is true to the bitter end to fight for her beliefs by becoming a suicide bomber and taking Dillon down with her.
The word poignant ought not be overused because it is reserved for moments like when Travis Verta receives a text of her demise.
Another Alec-Kiera confrontation, this time with Red Alec, who understandably is bitter about being put into Guardian's jail, ultimately is glossed over after Red Alec gets a night with Emily. Piron Alec is informed by Kellog's omnipresent surveillance that Escher would envy that Red Alec and KIera have joined forces again. The episode ends with Piron Alec glowering in a pique.
Next Week? Maybe the SLENDERMAN from the future will lay hands on Catherine and her Guardians, maybe lay hands and merge Sonya and Dillon? Zombie Jaworski gets his turn? There's still a chance that the writers of the show have not gone over the cliff with some hairbrained plot device, and mostly the season has been a solid Sci-Fi yarn, but occasionally They get to the brink of showing how easily a time travel story can get spoiled by just one bit of wackiness too much.
Continuum: 3 Minutes to Midnight (2014)
Spoilers! (mini recap) Weak script, bridging towards the Season Finale
I usually give 10 stars to Continuum, but this episode the writers handed the actors a really weak script because it does not do much but set up for the two finale episodes.
Brad Tonkins remembers that he killed (Green) Kiera in (green) Alec's SadTech lab -- he goes AWOL, but Kiera tracks him down to his 25 years younger self's address where he has cached some future weapons. How the four surviving Liber8 (Travis, Sonya, Garza, Lucas) find them is never explained but they capture Kiera and Tonkins in the alley outside Tonkin's childhood home.
In the abandoned warehouse (all warehouses in Vancouver are abandoned it seems), Kiera and Brad are tortured to give up the connective narrative which leads to the big finale episodes. The weekly dose of action in this action-adventure series is Brad's brief escape and smackdown by Travis, Garza nails Kiera's foot to the floor with a nailgun, and Kiera overpowers Sonya and with gun to her head saves Brad. Nobody believes Brad's story about coming from a wrecked future where nobody wins but Kellog who is a clan bigshot and Alec Sadler does not exist (again). That is nobody believes Brad's story until Lucas accidentally fires one of Brad's future weapons that punches a big hole in a concrete wall, THEN they believe.
Kiera stirs the pot by revealing that Garza was here on a plot for Alec-2077. Just as the Liber8s are falling apart, their mission failed, long lost zombie Curtis Chen and Kellog arrive together to say their lines and set up their roles for next week. Finally all the Liber8s wander off in different directions to ponder this future that they are creating in Brad's time, leaving Brad and Kiera alone to call a truce.

Setting up for the season cliffhanger: mini recap ep-3.10, spoilers.
If you speak Canadian then you watched last Sunday or online at the Showcase website, otherwise you can watch tomorrow, Friday June 6th, on SyFy. Another slow episode with no future glimpse or battle scenes, more intrigues and setups for an expected cliffhanger season finale coming up in three more weeks.
The bad corporations are back again: this time a pharma company trying to breakout into the big-time by selling the Liber8 street drug (ep-2.03) as an Alzheimer's cure. Inspector Dillon's daughter and Liber8 mole is working for Gautuma Pharmaceuticals as a janitor, spying for Liber8, and spying on Liber8. Kiera and Carlos get on the case after wondering why Kellog is buying lots of Gautuma stocks.
Alec continues his descent into sociopathy after last episode hacking up dead Green-Timeline (ep-3.01) Kiera's body to steals her future-tech CMR device, he now is studying it to get a jump on his "inventiveness", with Halo a first application on Jason to heal his craziness. Later Jason reverts back (or worse, watch future episodes to find out Jason's fate).
Alec is introduced to the proto-Corporate Congress of 2014, or as he calls it, getting a wedgie from the Fortune 500. Alec strikes back, putting Julian Randol on one revenge track for the frame job Sonmanto did to Julian, and setting Kellog to do the 2nd prong of flat-lining Gautuma stock prices. Along the way Kiera outs Dillon's daughter and spoils her role as Liber8-bait, with the line being: "No more Bettys".
Kiera puts clues together and sees bank video of her amnesiac house-guest taking the future device from the bank vault a few days before she was present at that bank when the brain-hacked robbers hit it. She goes to Catherine asking to inspect that object again and is stonewalled. The Guardians of history, Catherine and Agent Warren pressure Kiera about her guest, but she stonewalls back. We learn that there were "several" temporal events 11 weeks ago, so amnesia guy might not be alone.
Alec has decoded a better copy of the last memory storage on dead-Kiera's CMR, sees two faces he does not know involved: Curtis Chen and amnesia-guy both shooting down Kiera. Alec makes a copy for Kiera.
Alec makes a "sendoff" for dead Kiera, a "service", which gives him the opportunity to destroy dead Kiera's body and hide his tech theft, but living copy of Kiera detects the CMR is missing even as the body is vaporized. Shortly later, Kiera confronts Alec who withholds the video he made of who killed Kiera.
Meanwhile, spliced in with all these events, is Kiera and Carlos' investigation of Gautuma leads to her stealing some samples of their wonder drug ("flash") and later giving the memory drug to her amnesiac house-guest.
Amnesia-Guy, now Brad Tomkins, remembers stuff but not the most important part, that he fired the kill shot on other Kiera. The episode ends there leaving wonder if he will suddenly spring on Kiera without further warning.
Continuum: Minute of Silence (2014)
More futures, more mystery, lighter than usual on action sequences.
Another great episode of the best science-fiction action-adventure TV series. An amnesia guy is taken in by Kiera-2014, who it turns out that he possesses future hardware but also has future biology enhancements. Great acrobat guy cat burglar sequence stealing prototype invisibility cloak ultimately leads to catching Neelon (Betty's killer). Super-soldier Curtis Chen-2014 heading to amnesia guy's residence, recognizes him, is surprised by Kiera, gets thrashed by amnesia guy. No-warrant search and beating arrested Neelon foreshadows the future 2077 oppressive police state. Carlos and Alec bro-bonding over Kiera-2013's corpse leads to ghoulish Alec-2014 scavenging the corpse of his once-upon-a-time friend for future tech. Liber8 continues to reach out, this time Liber8's Lucas Ingram tipping off Carlos that the VPD is bugged by Neelon. Kellog makes a move into Alec's inner circle again.
Continuum (2012)
Between Seasons 2 & 3
Seasons 1&2 are on Netfliz, have aired, Season 3 mostly filmed is in the can, unaired, so far so good. You might want to get all caught up before watching season 3...
The story has unfolded slowly over 26 episodes, and by now we understand that Alec Sadler is son of time traveler Stan "Escher" Sadler and father to time traveler Jason Sadler. There is a time war emerging with three groups of protagonists: there is the corporate police state whose top dog is purposefully sending back groomed terrorists and an idealistic detective to 2012, for purposes of changing the way the future developed the first time, there are the tools terrorists full of violent tendencies whom would gladly undermine the sour future, and there is a third set, "Freelancers" they have been called, from some other future who want to spoil the goals of the first for their own purposes.
In the cliffhanger ending to season two, young Alec Sadler has just disappeared into points unknown using the time travel device. It is unclear whether he wants to rescue a lost love from death or get help from his future self. We have to wait to see. All of the main characters are imprisoned and the only agents free to act are the "Freelancers", and the young and old Alec Sadler, plus former Freelancer Escher, whom presumably knows the ins and outs of the Freelancer prison system.
Alex Sadler has played both good guy and villain: he's repairing the past but he created a large part of the totalitarian corporate police state which he is a dominating figure in. The chips implanted in drone slaves have the Sadtech logo on them. We have seen him loved and betrayed as the young Alec, and seen him betray in turn. Until season 3 opens Schrodinger's cat's box we won't know where he stands or "when" he is in. The "old" Alec would presumable "remember" what he did when he was young (including meeting time travelers which he sent back) but maybe not. For whatever reasons Kagame was groomed for his sacrificial role in 2012 by the old Alex, creating a loop if he remembered if from the young Alec. The Freelancers are present in 2077 future as shown in the cliffhanger. They attempted to stop the time travel the first time, and attempted to subvert the engineer building it whom was assassinated as she attempted to negotiate transfer to them. Apparently they can enter at will the old Alec Sadler's domains, so if young Alec went there, it is no refuge.
The writers have done a 10-star job of making 17 hours of time entertaining, so far, and I am rooting on them to accomplish as good a third season as they did in the first two.
Project Runway: All Dolled Up (2005)
My Scene Barbie, Season 2, Episode 3
The contest was to create a look for a life-sized Barbie Doll ("My Scene" Barbie"). Additionally the designers were required to make a doll-sized version of the same outfit.
The winner, Nick Verreos, won the recognition of having his doll look manufactured by Mattel in special edition with his name and photo credit on the package. Runner-up was Santino and 2nd runner-up was Kara. Eliminated designer was Raymundo, bottom two included Andrae, with Marla being in the bottom three.
Judges: Heidi Klum; Nina Garcia; Michael Kors; and Lily Martinez, Head Designer for "My Scene" Barbie.
Final ranking for this episode is based on how many designers are below each rank. All tied designers are co-equal, neither above or below others tied as "in". Nick beat 12 designers to get his rank of "12" this week, Raymundo beat none, so his rank is zero, and he is out.
Episode RANK = Nick = 12. Santino = 11. Kara = 10. Chloe = 3, Daniel V = 3, Zulema = 3, Emmet = 3, Diana = 3, Guadalupe = 3, Daniel F = 3. Andrae = 2. Marla = 1. Raymundo = 0
