Saint Maud (2019)
3/10
mental illness and religious fanatism, missed chance.
2 May 2024
"Saint Maud" purports to explore the intricate relationship between religion and mental illness, but ultimately falls short in its execution, delivering a shallow and unconvincing narrative. The film attempts to draw parallels between religious fervor and psychological instability, but instead of offering insightful commentary, it merely depicted this fanatics as everyday people.

Throughout the movie, religion is depicted as a convenient excuse for violence and extremism, showing that faith inevitably leads to fanaticism.

Furthermore, the performances in "Saint Maud" leave much to be desired. The characters come across as one-dimensional caricatures rather than fully fleshed-out individuals, making it difficult for the audience to invest in their struggles. The protagonist's descent into madness feels contrived and predictable, robbing the film of any genuine emotional impact.

Despite its shortcomings, "Saint Maud" does boast visually striking cinematography. However, this aesthetic appeal is ultimately overshadowed by the film's glaring flaws. In the end, "Saint Maud" is a forgettable and disappointing cinematic experience that fails to deliver on its promise of exploring the complex interplay between religion and mental health.

Scream VI (2023)

when the victim is the movie
3 December 2023
Scream 6 falls flat as the weakest link in the franchise. Despite high expectations, the film disappoints with a lackluster plot and unimpressive performances. The boredom sets in early, exacerbated by the uninspired acting, notably Hayden Panettiere's unrecognizable and poorly executed portrayal. The four main characters lack depth, relying on a singular expression that renders them more like caricatures than compelling figures. In comparison to the predecessors, Scream 6 fails to capture the essence of the iconic series, leaving audiences longing for the quality of the older installments. A regrettable addition to the franchise that misses the mark on suspense, thrills, and the charisma that defined the earlier Scream films.

This is Star Trek
30 December 2022
The first episode itself felt like worthing an entire season of some of the series I've seen recently for how good it is, I found my self asking if I was watching a movie or a tv series. After many disappointments finally a job well done, good stories, full of meaning but without rhetoric, beautiful sets, beautiful costumes. In the first episode there were more aliens than in the entire first season of Andor, to name but one, and they were all beautiful to look at. We are now on the sixth episode and so far after the conclusion, my partner and I are repeating 'wonderful'! I am sure it will maintain this level every episode. Yes, this series is TREK!

worst sequel of the franchise
22 August 2021
It amazes me how in the 80's there were few but cool bad a#s women and how today seems so difficult to have just one, even if we are (finally) in a more inclusive moment. Why? The main character is so annoying and immature, everything but a trained soldier, is the stereotype of a bad a#s woman should be; well, just watch T2, and you will see the huge difference and then cry.

Of course they manage to ruin even Sarah Connor, not to talk about Terminator it self. I. don't know how they thought this was a good movie, a good legacy, full of nowadays stereotype, instead on focusing on the story they lost imagination and fulfilled it with non sense. And of course they failed.

Santa Mozzarella?

Well, I don't know if they wanted to be offensive, but this movie is full of stereotype, starting from the Italian accent, I mean was necessary for what? To make them lookalike clowns? Holy moly if Disney would have use this concentrate of stereotype on somebody else the movie would have been boycotted already. But seems is fine...

Many questions without answer

Warning: Spoilers
How DC let make such bad second movie about WW?

How possibly from being a strong, powerful and independent woman, have as only goal in life be with a man who knew for only 2 weeks like 50 years before? Basically the message was "Remember girls, it doesn't matter how successful you are in life you'll feel absolutely empty and not be able to function without a man."

How a hero should wish something so selfish instead of something bigger? I mean, really?

Good movie aging well
13 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this picture during its release, today after almost 10 years I watched it again and I have to say that it remains fresh and beautiful to watch.

Well acted, perfect rhythm of a horror film that is also a family drama with well defined and credible characters. The gore scenes are perfect, lots of blood but also lots of twists in the story, that's why it keeps the attention high.

And in the best horror tradition we have a heroine who sends back some axe shots and stabs in the face, a girl prepared for survival who discovers at her own expense that you never really know someone, including who you married.

Recommended for those who love horror without supernatural.
