This is awful
24 September 2021
This can still be saved. They just need to change the writing, the editing (sweet Jesus, the editing), the score, the utter lack of cinematic storytelling and the protagonist.

I don't mind liberties being taken with the source material but now I can never read Foundation again without seeing Gael having sex in a pool.

When will it end, daddy?

Outside The Wire is a terrible movie made hilariously perfect by the longest deathbed speech in movie history.

If the Joker has an origin story, let it be this!
15 February 2020
Part of the mystique of the Joker is that his past is a mystery obfuscated by mockery and, like all good jokes, never needs explaining. I was worried that this movie would labour through a turgid dissection of the origin bit rather than add to the Joker legend but I was so wrong - this movie is perfect, so perfect that it even flirts with the hilarious notion that the Joker and Batman are brothers! How I laughed when hope of family was crushed.

The Joker lives on, and all I could think at the end of this masterpiece of a movie was how awful it must be to have to wait so long for Bats to turn up and make Gotham fun!

What a waste of Ruth Negga
11 January 2020
Just an appalling movie unless you really need a father/son dynamic that's depressing, broken and ultimately unsatisfactory.

The Macguffin, antimatter bursts from Neptune orbit that somehow cause EMP surges on Earth without doing anything noticeable elsewhere, including Neptune orbit, is just ridiculous. The scenery is basically bad animations of probe and IIS photography. Ruth Negga makes a cameo. And Brad Pitt's acting range can best be described as 'specific'.

I fail to see the point of this film. There was nothing sci-fo about it apart from the locations. If you're going to a psychological drama with beeps and weightlessness then at least first watch Moon so you have a basic idea of the genre.

Great little movie

If you come to this movie looking for a hard sci-fi flick, as I did, then you will be disappointe. Instead i found myself watching a little gem of a movie about the hardships of leaving everything behind and the pain of being stuck in a rut in life.

Excellent performance by the lead actress Madeleine Cook and enough memorable images and scenes to leave me quietly satisfied. I rate it a soft 7.
