I diafanoidi vengono da Marte (1966)
classic SciFi Italian Style
Rated 9 for the Kitsch factor!! I do have a problem, it says that the role of Jake (what's his name) is played by Franco Nero, but I do believe it's played by Terence HIll, who lately can be seen on MHz Networks in Don Matteo. And he was also in the 'Trinity' movies in the 1970's. One thing I do love about these Italian movies is that the music (opening/closing themes) is nicely done. Franco Nero was in Wild Wild Planet. I could be wrong because they're both handsome blue-eyed Italians but I'm pretty sure about that. I think Wild WIld Planet is my favorite. It's SO pre-Stepford Wives. It's the height of corn, but it cracks me up every time I watch it. Very contemporary for the mid 60's....I love all the sleek design costumes, cars, and furniture. And of course, who wouldn't have a crush on Captain Mike!!
London Boulevard (2010)
Definitely worth it...
The plot summary written by MAHDI was completely WRONG...don't go by what's written. Colin Farrell is released from prison and wants to go the straight and narrow...or as close as he can get to it. He is put in touch with a reclusive actress (Knightly) who is looking for a 'handyman', and although I wouldn't necessarily say they fall in love with each other, they are certainly FOND of each other. Mitch (Farrell) has a sister who's a bit of a ditz, a wildass friend (Billy) who keeps trying to get him back into the game, and the big cheez is Ray Winstone. The story is very well done, the acting is well done (can NEVER go wrong with Winstone!!) and I have to say that in the last 20 movies I've seen over the last couple of years, this would definitely be in the top three. David Thewlis is also very good in the film, as he usually is in most films. You just can't go wrong with this selection if you like watching Brit BadBoy films!
The Tree of Life (2011)
who RATES these movies???
thought the design sets were well done but overall the movie was dull as dishwater. I wished I had taken LSD beforehand so I might have been able to appreciate it...I was totally ticked that I had missed Judge Judy for this film. If you think you're going to see a gut wrencher or a sob into your hankie type film, you might appreciate it. I found myself diggin my nails into my thighs to keep from letting expletives fly about having wasted hard earned money for this miserable piece of junk. Not every movie that Brad Pitt is in is a blockbuster, it was just not for me. When I see a movie, I want to get into it. This did not do it for me...but then, most movies made since 2000 are pretty well garbage. Enjoy this movie! Not.
Chibideka monogatari (1958)
Worth every minute!
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid...I couldn't possibly recommend it highly enough for any family. It was well done, funny and sad, but definitely memorable! Nothing much has changed since it was made in the 50's either. Kids can be cruel to each other, and it happens everywhere, not just at the local school. The boys who portrayed each of the characters in the movie did such an outstanding job getting the emotions across, even though it was a foreign film. We were always excited when we found out that CBS was going to show it, I think I saw it about 3 or 4 times when I was growing up. It is the ONLY movie I remember from the CBS Children's Film Festival, although I'm sure there were others that were memorable at the time, but this one just really struck home. I think Kukla Fran and Ollie should come back on RetroTV or TV Land, too. And Shari Lewis and Lambchop. Great entertainment for kids that no one does well anymore. Kids of all ages would enjoy Skinny and Fatty. As would adults who aren't total dorks. Should be in every kid's collection of classics!
