Big letdown compared to The Swordsman but still satisfying 2nd half.

Big letdown compared to The Swordsman but still satisfying 2nd half.

Props to the camerawork, stunt team and actors. Writing in 1st half very bad. In 2nd half okeyish. Soundtrack sounded mostly very cheap but got less noticable in 2nd half. I don't know what happened, after the The Swordsman I thought the director/actor team would do be going to the stars, seemed like a dream team. The whole kinda unique camera style from The Swordsman only got noticeable in the 2nd half / last 3rd. Which was a pleasant surprise, after the disappointing and very cliche, cheaply written first half. I was looking forward to this a lot, and it seems at some points a lot of effort went into this and it showed but ultimately was let down by poor writing. Personally OST is a big thing as well and it was not good to say the least. Damn. They could have done more with this. 6 is being generous. Hope they'll go on to be doing something better.

The Stranger (II) (2022)

That's some heavy stuff.
19 October 2022
Very dark and gritty. Slow paced, psychological tension built up to a point where I was rly unnerved and uncomfortable, in an awesome way.

Glad I saw and listened to that one review, which advised not to look much further into more reviews that might give away too much. So going into it knowing almost nothing is what I recommend as well.

The shots, the minimalistic dark OST, the pace it all fit very well together.

At moments it felt way too real and I could empathize a lot with some of the characters.

Being intentionally very vague, and won't get into the story for the aforementioned reason. I will recommend this movie to some of my friends, especially those who I know share my passion for slow, dark and gritty non-flashy movies, that make you feel you need a goddamn beer to deal with the induced anxiety, after viewing it. Have fun!

Feels like a generic Disney fantasy production. A spit into Tolkien's face.
2 September 2022
Review after 2 episodes: Zero Tolkien vibes. Writing and dialogue incredibly bad, ffs how can you mess up the most important aspect with such incredible underlying material. With the insane budget you'd at least expect the visuals to be mind-blowing. A few good shots here and there but mostly generic fantasy wallpapers. CG looks expensive and fancy however at the same time bland and generic. Seems as though they tried to copy parts of the original LOTR trilogy (it's ridiculously obvious), picked apart the Silmarillion, mixed it back together, and executed it badly on top of that. Galadriel seems pretty well cast, she saved of little there was to be saved. But even her can't do magic with a terrible script. All other actors are, so far at least, mediocre at best.

There are so many weird decision for the plot that make either no sense or feel super rushed and uninspired. The writers or whoever picked them truly and utterly ruined a chance for bringing more epic Tolkien to the screen.

I really, really hope this was just a bad start, maybe they struggled to introduce the world to a broad audience, trying to reel in non-Tolkien fans, and it rly gets going from the 3rd episode on, but there's little faith left.

Halo (2022– )

Highly entertaining, hungry for more

Except for 2 weaker episodes, I thought it was fantastic. Haven't played a single Halo game, so I can't speak to that, but giving this 1-3 star is just brainless and super childish. Let's hope it gets continued.

Finally

A movie that manages to pay respect to the vastness of space. Great story. Super important and interesting theme and story, that I wish would be covered by more movies or series. Well done.

A gem

What a great atmospheric movie and nice parable about loneliness and connection. A true pleasure for my eyes and senses. Expected a creepy horror movie, instead turned out to be less horror, much creeps and so much more.

daaaamn broooo that was intense
24 August 2021
Jeez Mcgeese that was way more intense than I expected a floppin anime to be, no offense. Admittedly i enhanced the 2nd half of the movie with a couple brewskis but still. And btw the OST hit hard! Made me totally to finally play the witcher that i purchased on steam on a sale a while ago. Off to adventure, pain and gloryyy, hurrrraayyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a worthy spin off
23 July 2021
Hellyeah, that was one kick-a$$ spin-off of or rather origin story of the series. Damn I really long for more now. There is a great dramatic main theme in this movie, I don't wanna call it by name, spoilering, but lemme tell you, it got real dark, and I liked it, and it felt so satisfying in the last third of the movie, just wanted to see the whole world burn. I see no reason to analyze the movie much more detailled, maybe because there was not a single bad or annoying thing to me, which is a miracle comparing it to other NF releases these days. Style from the series is all there, and imho at least on the same level of quality, what I noticed is the OST seemed actually better, very aggressive. Keep 'em coming!

(btw it's more of an 8/10 but in these times of super polarized reviews/rating I feel obligated to put on a star for stuff I dig.)

better than a mediocre takashie piece
2 July 2021
I just came to say this after reading reviews claiming this was very violent in the style of takashi miike. But no, not at all. Compared against his standards this was a kindergarden picture. So for anyone being hyped for a big dose of takashi violence, this ain't it. I still enjoyed it though. Give it a try, but i rewatched blade of the immortal and it was more violent than this.

For 10y olds 10/10 for adults 4/10

This must be the most immature movie relative to its budget that I have ever watched. And there is no making up for it by fancy action and cgi scenes. What a huge letdown and waste of time.

Gave me the creeps
21 September 2020
What this movie to me achieved perfectly were the eerie, desolated cityscapes. Some really nice shots there. And as the other review pointed out: the insecurity of a female living alone there.

Agreed, that some of the actions by the lead character and supporting characters seemed illogical, but it wasn't too bad, compared to similar movies.

Makes me wanna buy 5 different locks.
