Not for everyone
11 May 2018
Not an average movie, I liked it more as a peek inside a crazy person's mind than as a story. Be warned, it has much profanity and violence.

Might depend on your taste
29 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those movies that requires certain mood to be viewed. It's a bit dark and slow -too slow for my taste, that's the only downside.

I think this is a movie most people will vote 4-5 points out of ten; or 9-10 out of ten. There are no 7 here. You love it (as I personally did) or you might hate it (as I myself might have other day).

Even while the main character is depressing, he spoked from time to time, and he never tried to hide what he felt. He had a depressed-honey badger attitude (he doesn't give a sh).

The start is slow and depressing... very depressing and by the half of the movie you will start hoping something changes, that Penn speaks as a man, or that he smiles, not because it's bad acting (I think he was outstanding) but because it really gets to depress and even might bore the audience (once you get bored, it doesn't matter what happens, the movie will be bad). It's a dark and human film.

Funny but with holes
8 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Good movie for entertaining, but too many story-holes for it to be taken "seriously" (as seriously as a movie can be taken).

There's some action, but really not that much. I wouldn't call it an action movie.

There even aren't enough good characters; so the protagonist is both the good guy (present) and the bad guy (future) of the movie.

Also, the detail of putting the telekinetic thing onto the story (10% of the people? Really?), which added nothing really (does the rainmaker need to be a super telekinetic guy? Couldn't be just an ordinary guy?).

On the thing of the time travel, logic tells us two things can happened: either you can change the future or you cant. Given that you can change it, story might loop until a non-paradoxical time-line is created. This seems to happened in the movie when the protagonist kills his older self and story loops, and he's put in the same situation again. Then, on the ending, when he suicides, all of the movie shouldn't have happened (his older self not traveling and he is not in that position again, so he doesn't suicide... so, paradox). But rather than that, movie ends there as if this was a logical ending (also, shooting his older self would have let the rainmaker be alive and with his mother, and also wouldn't have led to a paradox...).

Poor minded vision
4 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Very biased. Typical Hollywood film that puts paranormal and stuff like real.

Given this movie, everybody believes in paranormal and thinking otherwise is weird, even in scientific circles. The only way to become a "skeptical" is to have a family tragedy and not being able to let that go.

Skeptical telling as a bad thing "made me doubt", when skepticism means to have doubt of something (if you think there are no paranormal things, that's a belief too; if you believe in paranormal and don't look at the alternative, that's closed mind too; skepticism, to live in doubt of everything but what it's proved is the only really open minded).

Also, according to this movie, skepticals don't know how to argue.

One of the worst movies i ever saw
5 April 2012
I was on a plane and they put this "film". After 5-10 minutes, I could only take the earplugs out and just watch this awful thing for laughs only.

It's a brainless movie, using characters from a great book. It takes everything you may hate from action movies (because they're so exaggerated) and puts it on a film that has nothing to do with it.

If you like brainless action, don't care about the plot, and you love when they put out-of-time things (technologies and attitudes out of a time), when they misrepresent an entire society and epoch, when they put woman in the middle of the action (just because that sells), when they put advanced technology in ancient times just because that "looks cool", they look back and suddenly worship someone from ancient times because he was advanced, and they say "hey, f*ck logic" and put flying boats and things, this movie is for you.

Fun to watch for USA's people
12 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has it's ups and downs.

On the upper side, it's fun to watch, good effects (do their job), has known actors and, at the end, the aliens get their ass kicked. That's it for good things.

On the other hand, it's disgusting for non USA people.

Lemme get deeper on this: the entire movie's idea is "lets make 4 of July a celebration for everyone." Who cares other's countries independence? They do not worth as much as ours, right?. Seems to support USA's government external policy, "let's keep forcing other countries to do what we think is best for them". USA is the bulliest country of the world. Some of their people are even so naive to think they're doing some good to the world. It's even offensive.

Another quote was something like "-Oh, the American's have a plan. -It was about time." Some Messiah Complex for a country.

And, of course, the only main character to die (besides the fact that like half of the human race is gone) is Pressident's wife... and that happens because she didn't leave when she was told (way too b-class).

Some naiveness is seen on the movie too. The guy who just happened to known the president is the guy who will save the day... I mean... Come on! Wake up! We're not talking about some bunch of scientists working for years. We're talking about a guy who in a day learns to program alien machines, find a vulnerability and make a virus!

In all, a fun movie, but kinda insulting if you're not from USA.

P.D.: I know, down-votes coming from USA, up-votes from the rest of the world.
