Flaming Star (1960)
7/10
This is one of his best movies.

As an actor, Elvis always wanted to be taken more seriously. Elvis's is acting ability grew tremendously during the period of time between this movie and Love Me Tender. Elvis was trapped by the fact he was so popular that just about anything he stared in was going to be a hit. Therefore, he was forced to crank out one silly singing movie after the other for Colonel Parker and the studio bosses.

Elvis always wanted to be considered as much of a serious actor as Marlon Brando, Steve McQueen or any of his other contemporaries. He could have gotten his wish, but for the fact he was known as a singer first and an actor second. Can you imagine Elvis in the starring role of a movie like On the Waterfront, Rebel Without a Cause or some other movie that did not involve any singing? Sadly, we will never know.

A Bell helicopter in WW2?
25 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a stickler for historical accuracy. I can deal with modern vehicles altered to look like period vehicles. However, I would soon believe Richard Burton being sober for 24 hours than a Korean era helicopter!

The sets were accurate.
30 December 2021
As a child in the 50's, I lived in a small town in south Georgia. I remember going to town on Saturday and seeing the streets sidewalks packed and jammed with the "country people" who came to town once a week to buy the supplies they did not grow themselves. I've seen the old cars from the 20s, 30s and 40s parked side-by-side with wagons drawn by mules or horses. I've seen weeds growing up along the curbs of the unpaved, or partially paved streets. I've also seen the barefoot boys teasing the girls. After all, I was one of those barefoot boys and oh how I loved that little redheaded girl!

It's a great movie about a loving couple and a monster.

My wife is the same age as Ann; I'm one year older. I just saw this movie for the first time in September 2020. When it came out in 1988, our children were small and we were busy! I wish nothing but God's blessings to Ann and and her loving husband.

When Mrs. Higgins dies, Mr. Hagan says, "I could've been a better husband. Now I don't have the chance."

My wife will say the same thing but then add, "Oh well, I was a good cook. Now let's read the will."
