Dance Flick (2009)
Dancing never looked so bad!
Dance Flick is very bad film. Filled with unfunny joke, after unfunny joke, after unfunny joke. This goes for almost all the Wayans brothers write, direct, or produce. Some people like this humour for some odd reason. The humour like many other Wayans movie is loud, obnoxious, and did I say unfunny. This movie, even among bad movies, is very awful. A humour that only people who have live under a rock for hundreds of years, decided to come out and realize that this movie wasn't in the least bit amusing. Jokes that a 5 year old makes when they don't like something is a 100 times funnier. If you like parodies, watch "This is Spinal Tap" cause there is at least something to laugh at in that on purpose. Hell even the cover of Spinal tap is funnier than the Wayans brothers entire group of film parodies. And if your thinking you want to watch a bad movie to make fun of, don't. There is absolutely nothing redeemable with this awfully unfunny film. Did I forget to mention that it sucks.
Who's Your Caddy? (2007)
It's like Caddy Shack! Minus the humour, the likability, and anything resembling a movie
Well, after just watching this horrifying piece of feces, I can safely say that this movie is well deserving on being on the bottom 100 of IMDb. I mean there is not a single redeeming factor through out the entire film.
I've seen a lot of bad movies and of those bad movies I have rooted for the villain, but this is the earliest I have every start rooting for the villain because the main cast are just down right awful. Awful characters, awful acting, awful story, just plain awful. It's not the worst film I have ever seen but it's sure as hell is up there. With so many stereotypes in place that I, a Caucasian intelligent man, feel offend not only as a white person, but equal as offend for all African- Americans alone.
Also, the morals within the movie are especially stupid. "Hey kids, its okay to be loud, obnoxious, cheat, treat women like dirt, act like a person who was raise from the streets even though you're a 13 year white kid from upper class society, and crap on everyone else's ideals that aren't like yours because Who's your Caddy says its okay."
Bottom line is that this movie is down right atrocious. If like golf, Caddy shack, or anything that is decent in this world then stay the hell away from Who's your Caddy and never look back. Lord knows I didn't.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
A man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
If you were like me and you had seen the original movie with Charlton Heston, you were dreading the day that this movie came out for two reasons. 1. The movie was in CGI. I loved the original ape movies because of its practical effects and costumes, so when I saw it was in CGI my hopes went a bit more down. 2. The remake before suck. In 2001 Tim Burton made an apes movie and sucked big time, so seeing that there was another remake made me pretty angry.
I went into the theatre ready to hate this movie and tear it a new one, but I came out liking it. The acting for the most part was pretty good. You could actually feel the chemistry between James Franco's character and Caesar(the main ape.) The CGI was decent but at times look very weird and the whole movie you can tell that Caesar didn't look right. Aside from that the movie was very well done the second best ape movie in the whole series. There were a few minor plot holes here and there, but you get over it.
The one main thing that brings the movie down is Tom Felton who you might know from the harry potter movies as Draco. He says a line in the movie at the most dramatic part in the movie so be ready for that cause it takes you out of the movie when he says that line.
Like I said I went into it hating it and came out liking it. If you haven't seen the original I would watch that one first so you can catch some of the references, but it isn't essential. Check out Rise Planet of Apes. I'm sure it's a movie you'll surly go ape for(pun intended)
Gnomeo & Juliet (2011)
The play of "Romeo and Juliet" with gnomes and a more kid friendly atmosphere
When I first saw the trailer for this movie I thought it was the worst idea ever. Making a movie based off a pun seem pretty bad. To my surprise it was somewhat entertaining. It wasn't "Toy Story" or "How to train your dragon" good, but it didn't make me want gauge out my eyes. The animation is good and the movie has a crap ton of well known actors in it like Jim Cummings, Michael Caine, Emily Blunt, and even Hulk Hogan. The movie would definitely entertain kids and will get the occasional smirk from the adult, but its not a movie you can really watch again. After all, the premise for the movie is pretty stupid, but it did take a dumb premise and did what it could with it. There a few things that did bother me which is more of a personal thing like questioning how no notice a crap ton of gnomes have a war especially regarding the last seem where it seemed that even a deaf person would notice whats going on. But I digress. Its not a terrible movie, but its not a really good one
Tron: Legacy (2010)
In a place called the grid, a boy learns the whereabouts his father, who has been missing for the past decade while also fighting off a man named Clue.
I was quite disappointed in this film. I went to this film in theatres on opening day with high expectations. I had just watch the original Tron few days prior so I was pretty excited for this film. However, this film was not anything like I expected.
First problem I have is the lack of modernization with in the film. Tron legacy had plenty of technology that could've been installed into the film(no pun intended). It didn't have that interesting look of things like the original did.
Speaking of look, the visuals were also a disappointment. If you're like me this was the one film you were looking forward to in 3D, however only half of the film is in 3D and it isn't even that spectacular. Now you may argue that they only put the 3D parts in when they were in the Grid, but no. I took off my 3D glasses about 4 times, 3 of which were at moments when they were in the grid, and the screen was perfectly clear.
Another thing I had a problem with is the effect to duplicate Jeff Bridges. Now I didn't notice the it to much until about a third into the movie, the effect made the duplicate look really digital almost like an effect from an Ed Wood if he had CGI at some point. The thing is though the effect could've been save if they made the eyes on the effect glowing that orange/yellow colour on the suits. It would've look kinda neat and also look like the digital muck up look made to look that way on purpose. Also while watching this, it didn't feel that alive like the other did, it almost felt like a giant room with 2 chairs in it, not much to see.
Another thing that bugged me is the kid who gets sucked into the grid. Its not that I didn't like the kid as an actor, but I didn't get why he was so good at everything. For instance, right at the beginning when he's in the disc tournament, it takes him about three seconds to figure out what the disc is, figure out how to use, understand the physics of the disc, and be a pro disc thrower. Its just hard for me to take it in that he figure all that out in a matter of seconds. If it were like 10 minutes or something then it would've been more captivating in my personal opinion.
The last thing I'll regard is how they got a turkey dinner in the grid. I mean, how did it get there? Did they beam it in the grid? Did they kill it with in the grid? Are turkeys really some sort of secret computer virus that I'm not aware of? I have no idea.
To sum up, if you like the original, prepare to be disappointed. But giving the film some credit it did have some really great visuals and the soundtrack was really great as well. But aside from that, the film has many flaws that I didn't even look at in this review that really bring this film down. The plot was kinda generic, the acting was sub-par, and overall it was all that interesting like the first was. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it could've done a lot better. With that said I hope you enjoyed this review and I'm looking forward of making more.
