Franchouillard Jaws
14 August 2022
As I'm writing this review, there's just another one here about this movie and damn it's harsh!

No, it's not a masterpiece as Jaws or other shark movies can be.. Wait a minute, is there any other masterpiece in this genre ? Anyway, there are some very smart camera moves and really good use of short focal length lenses. I've been impressed several times of how intelligent some stuff are revealed on the screen.

Some actors are not that great and some shots feel a bit off, but it doesn't make this movie a bad one. It's honest and sincere and not "woke" (Damn, I hate this word) at all ! I had a pretty good time watching it and you might have one too.

And don't forget that you might need a bigger boat !

Shaky Cam & Zoom
24 February 2022
The story is good enough to be invested in the movie, actors are great too but I don't know why there are so many shots with weird little zoom and shaky cam. It doesn't seem to evoke anything, just a terrible way to shoot and direct..

I've always been a huge fan of Alain Chabat, as an actor, a director and a human being. And this movie doesn't change that. He's so talented and so nice, he's been a positive person during all my life since I discovered La Cité de la Peur or Didier. A bit like a French Robin Williams or Bill Murray if I may. This movie is really good at some point and not that great at some other moments. The first part of the "second act" is the only thing that I really really liked. I could name it "The Waiting", it's funny and beautiful and the idea was awesome. Even the photography is better at this moment of the movie. Can't really tell why ! However, the first and third acts was not so good to me, especially the very end of the movie. I was waiting for more but it ended just like this... You will probably have Lost In Translition in mind when you start to watch the movie but it's not as good, even if there's a real effort here and once again Alain Chabat is amazing. About Bae Doona, she's almost like a dream and she doesn't have a lot of lines of dialogue but it's always a pleasure to see her. Anyway, you should probably watch it and make your own idea. As I said, there is some good in this movie and it's worth watching it.

All credits goes to Samara Weaving !

It breaks my heart to see such notes as 1 or 2 stars for this movie. But come on, it is not a masterpiece either, but it brings some interesting stuff to the table. Color grading is a bit off to me but at least they tried something. Samara Weaving is amazing, I mean AMAZING ! I was watching her during many scenes and told myself "damn she's good in this role". Can't wait to see her again. Oh, and I loved the end ! I wasn't expecting this and I enjoyed it a lot.

This being said, I have an unlimited cinema card so I can go to see whatever I want. Probably wouldn't pay 10 euros for this kind of movies anymore, but hey, that's why unlimited cards exist (at least here in France !)
