Leap of Faith (2015)
A deep and profound film about life and change
In the first few moments, Leap of Faith may seem to be a romantic comedy, but instead beautifully unfolds as a deep film of exploration and artistry. Marie (Billie Vee), has been where Mark (Dominic Ryan) is now: at a crossroads in life and searching for meaning and purpose. After a chance meeting in a hostel and a chat in a pub, the new friends explore the Welsh countryside. Ryan and Vee are perfectly matched and do an excellent job of portraying the new friends. Ryan's script is beautifully written with amazing depth. The selection of locations is perfect. The cinematography, particularly of the countryside in Wales, is breathtaking. In addition, the soundtrack compliments each of the scenes well. Repeated viewings open up new meanings and symbolism in the film: Marie accompanies Mark into the cave of the unknown (his future) and then joins him for a swim in the river near a waterfall which is could represent Mark's baptism into a new life and freedom from his old life. A beautiful film filled with humor and such profound, wise writing. Dominic Ryan is a superb director who has deftly crafted a short film that will resonate with anyone who dares to be an artist or has gone through life-changing experiences.
