Daisy Jones & The Six (2023)
The lead guy is just too old dude
Straight off the bat the lead actor just looks too darn old for the part. He just doesn't exude youthful rock n roll spirit. He's a blurry counterfeit. This leads me to believe that the script - which is about as complex in its construction as a classic American highway - has been cobbled together to give a lot of young actors the opportunity to play act at being unappreciated hugely talented rock gods and goddesses. That would, to some degree, be ok if the film creators had some scorching songs to give credence to this idea but these lost souls in the end are just dudes and chicks with mediocre talent on holiday in LA playing music with classic 'yawn' Rock 'n' Roll problems. How this got bank rolled is probably more interesting than the movie itself but would probably involve too many ol' daddies.
Spike Island (2012)
A work of genius
Fabulous direction, sensitive creative camera work, wonderfully scripted with lines beautifully delivered with love and understanding by a carefully chosen and glorious cast. A British film that refreshingly lacks the normal British film buffoonery but instead captures the sharp wit, passion and quirky eccentricity of British youth. The attention to detail is wonderful and gives to the rendering of a very authentic piece of work. It certainly took me back. The love scene is sweet and in fact nothing in the film is gratuitous. A niche masterpiece of film making that should be adored. This is the one to watch.
Leonardo (2021)
Absolutely dreadful
Italian master with Italian accent recruits British working class boys to lend a hand in his studio. One of them is called Leonardo who appears to be a bit of a bumbling fool but is soon revealed to be a genius! The direction is awful, the script simplistic and crass the lighting lacks a filmic quality and smacks of cheap video productions. All in all a film that feels like it was made by art students with no imagination. Poor Aiden Turner feels like Poldark in a painters smock having a hard time. He was worthy of a far better team.
Poldark: Episode #5.1 (2019)
Terrible story line and poorly directed and lit
In comparison to seasons 1- 4 this production is totally amateurish in conception and execution.
Very disappointing. This series really ends at the end of season 4
Itar el-layl (2014)
This is a wonderful movie. Visually poetic and gracefully put together.
Why this has been given such low ratings so far can only be a reflection on the users of this database. If ever a film was worthy of actually being made then this is it. There is a beautiful contrast to the themes explored here but at the same time they harmoniously reflect the ways in which we deal with the darker happenings we may encounter in life. I'm not going to write paragraphs here. The message for me was don't hang around in the darkness for longer than you need to, and this is something that is always worthy of being reminded of. Adults get drawn to darkness, children to light. There is sometimes an unjustified amount of attention given to people who appear to have inner sufferings which sometimes makes me wonder if they unknowingly pursue such inner turmoil for this very reason alone. The camera in this movie is certainly drawn to such a character in one of it's main protagonists. Perhaps at times we all indulge suffering, awaiting life's stream to carry us on to the next uplifting chapters. This is cleverly put here in the final scenes. I really enjoyed this movie. Thank you.
