Helluva Boss (2019)
Not everyone's cup of tea
My spouse loves this show, but it's really not my cup of tea.
Creative world-building, but the shows attempts to strike a range of emotions with its audience through music, humor, emotion, action. It can often be a hit-or-miss.
The plot feels a bit scattered with each episode contributing little to an overall plot. I don't see much character development & don't feel connected to the characters.
The humor isn't too clever and seems to heavily rely on comments being as vulgar/sexual as possible. Which becomes predictable and lackluster within a few episodes.
Ultimately, I think it's worth checking out the 1st episode. But there's no need to keep watching if it doesn't capture your interest from there.
Kamera o tomeru na! (2017)
Not for Everyone
A unique 90 minute film that has an incredibly dry set-up for a clever finale. To clarify, this is intended to be a comedy, not a zombie film. Have extra time on your hands & watch a unique, goofy comedy with some filler material? Go for it. Have friends/family over or looking for a premier film to watch this weekend? Not recommended, this film is not for everyone.
The first 60 minutes of the film are incredibly difficult to watch. Many viewers will be tempted to walk away. If you're able to tough it out, this dry 60 minute stretch all allow for the set-up of a clever, 30 minute final act. While I enjoyed the final act, I do not believe it justified an hour of mind-numbing material.
At a minimum, the film could have been better edited to cut out some irrelevant material to the plotline.
The Green Knight (2021)
Odd Film Poorly Suited to the Average Viewer
This film is based on a famous 14th century poem, 'Sir Gaiwain and the Green Knight'. Unfortunately, this film is a poor adaptation of the original poem. The film is full of cinematic, but very strange scenes that provide no context and absolutely confound the theater.
Many of the key elements behind the story are not well defined (see the five virtues of a knight). There is minimal character development or plot momentum. The overall plot is quite simple yet the film exceeds two hours. I will compliment the film for a quality score and cinematography, but it appeared to have focused too heavily on these elements and became lacking in others.
