Mediocre
23 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
An unoriginal concept which has been done before (yes, we're all thinking Battle Royale). Acting was above average though. However, at one point, Katniss' (Jennifer Lawrence) mourning of Rue was too dramatic and over the top.

The shaky camera effect was at first mildly irritating and annoying, but I guess the audience becomes adjusted to the shakiness about a third of the way into the film.

Some of the scenes were very unbelievable e.g. The evil gang failing to kill Katniss because she climbed up a tree. I distinctively recall one of the clique members being able to throw a pocket knife skillfully enough to kill a lizard.... and the rival archer gave up after two arrow shots?

I found Katniss's naivety to be too unbelievable. I know this is a sci-fi movie based on a novel, but come on, did she not for a moment fear that Rue would betray her?

I am giving this title a 2/10 since I do not believe it deserves the great acclaim that it currently has.

The Office: Doomsday (2011)
Season 8, Episode 6

More subtlety!

Pleasantly surprised by this episode, as I was expecting immature teenage-movie comedy as seen in the previous episodes. Glad to see that The Office has returned to believable plots (or at least partially believable). A far cry from the over the top 'The Hangover' style slapstick mess that we've been seeing recently. The producers really need to stay away from turning the show into a teenage-movie comedy / sitcom.

Erin's silliness, although charming, sometimes spoils the atmosphere of the show. I have also noticed that Oscar has gone slightly goofy this season. It would be much more enjoyable to watch if there were more naive characters (like the old Pam).

I am still looking forward to the moment that The Office will fully recover from the lowbrow humour that we've seen recently. I miss the awkward reactions from Season 1, 2, and 3. E.g. the characters looking at the camera when they are uncomfortable or when someone does something unprofessional etc. Currently, the employees appear to readily accept inappropriate behaviour in the office, and the whole show feels like a sitcom. We need more head shaking, eye rolling and walking away from Angela. We need to see some characters telling Andy that they need to get on with their work. Make it believable! Just my suggestion on how the The Office could go about if its still wants to claim itself as a mockumentary.

Overall it is a step in the right direction. It is episodes like these that show that there is still a glimmer of hope left for this show.

The Office: Garden Party (2011)
Season 8, Episode 4
4/10
This isn't The Office that I know and love.

Disappointing to see Pam successfully out-bitching Angela. This reduced her character and instantly turned her into an unlikeable character.

Angela's signature persona was cold and judgemental from the start, and it was always very entertaining to watch her roll her eyes and walk away from employees / activities she deemed unprofessional. Pam's transition from a naive, determined and respectable character to a boring version of Angela was a huge disappointment for me.

Ed Helms was clearly desperate to entertain us, and unfortunately the end result he produced was The Hangover style lowbrow comedy, which was awful to watch.

The only highlight of this series was Dwight's seriousness in organising and performing opening and closing ceremonies, which was true to his character.

Epic Movie (2007)

Absolutely terrible

This is perhaps the worst montage of clips I have ever seen. I refuse to call this sloppy mess a movie.

Despite Jayma Mays' effortless and lightly entertaining acting, the silliness becomes unbearably tiring after the first few scenes. The few cheap chuckles here and there were definitely not worth the time and money that was wasted.

Although I appreciate the effort taken to recreate the parody scenes, I could not help but feel that my taste had been dented after watching this avalanche of stupid. There's immature yet funny e.g. Scary Movie. Then there is just putting on a desperate bid to mock. Epic Movie is the latter.
