Baby Review

How often would u get to see a movie without songs in Bollywood and how often would that movie would be fascinating. Baby is those one of the rarest of the are movies to make it to this list besides Madras Cafe. Gripping is the word. The first ten minutes itself set the pace of this action thriller. This is a completely nail biting tale and has you hooked to it. Neeraj Pandey sets the standard really high and has a daring take at terrorism. The story is on the face and the script with dialogues such as "India ek pareshan mulk hai" and "Main religion category mein Indian likhta hoon, Capital mein!" completely bowls you over. Akshay Kumar fits the role with ease. He has always been the quintessential action hero and in this too he excels. Although I do feel, the content overpowers this film and so it's not Akshay's best.

Danny Denzongpa is seen after Bang Bang and he gives a power packed performance here as well. The casting being perfect, he holds his character extremely well.

Anupam Kher enters in the second half and is quite funny with his quirky character as Shuklaji.

Tapsee Pannu impresses with her action scene and shows her potential to star in films which have a heroine pulling off some action and kicking ass.

Rana Daggubati is truly like hulk in the film. He does not get a chance to talk much but then again his personality speaks volumes for his role.

Rashid Naz, the Pakistani actor, who plays the antagonist is brilliant as Maulana. You truly hate him all through the film.

On the whole, BABY is one of the finest films ever made in the history of Indian cinema. Not only because of its excellent cinematic credentials but also because of the balanced 'Thought' behind the film. Neeraj Pandey once again proves that he's a genius. This time he proves, it's possible to better Perfection. We say, hey baby, don't think, just go for BABY. Cinema at its very best!

Mardaani (2014)

A Powerful Film

Mardaani is a movie that despite an unimaginative plot and predictable narrative engrosses you in its fabric. Rani Mukerji is pitch perfect in the role of a super-cop that is rightly hued, far from the floss and swagger of Chulbul Pandey and Singham. She is real, gritty and every bit brilliant. Though the film's climax loses itself in melodrama, this is a film that has its heart in the right place and tells a pertinent story at a time when it must be heard.

Rani Mukerji with no make up, stern face maintains her strong demeanor. The actress is non dramatic on purpose and that did the trick for me. She is far from the pomp and show of masala cop films and that subtlety blows your mind. I am ecstatic that the lady has returned in a role that does justice to her caliber.

Tahir Bhasin is a revelation and quite interestingly lives up to Rani's stature. The chase between him and Rani is built brilliantly mostly because of his conviction in rendering such brilliance to his character. His diction and twang both blend in well drawing one's attention even further.

Singham Returns (2014)

Review of Singham Returns

Rohit Shetty's SINGHAM -- his best effort to date, in my opinion -- was a forceful blast from the past. A film that faithfully followed the rules of entertainment to the T. A remake, the first part brought back memories of the classics that were attempted by our peers. SINGHAM emerged a solid hit for varied reasons: high-voltage drama, raw action, dialogue-baazi during the confrontations and of course, power-packed performances by Ajay Devgn and Prakash Raj that elicited wolf-whistles. Quite obviously, the expectations from SINGHAM RETURNS, which brings the unbeatable combo of Ajay and Rohit Shetty together, are gargantuan. On the whole, SINGHAM RETURNS is a complete mass entertainer with power- packed drama, hi-intensity dialogue and towering performances as its aces. The brand value attached to it coupled with a long weekend will help the film reap a harvest and rule the box-office in days to come. A sure-shot WINNER!

What makes ENTERTAINMENT attention-grabbing -- besides its distinctive storyline -- is the fact that it is helmed by Sajid-Farhad, who have penned several laughathons in the past. Naturally, one expects their directorial debut to be a rib-tickling entertainer. There's one more reason -- Akshay Kumar. The actor, synonymous with comedies, has a terrific comic timing and with a title like ENTERTAINMENT, the film ought to live up to those lofty expectations, right? Does ENTERTAINMENT hit the right notes? Let's find out! On the whole, ENTERTAINMENT is a joy ride that lives up to its title. Go, laugh out loud and get entertained!
