Kings of Mulberry Street: Let Love Reign (2023)
Taste of Durban and South Africa
Look it's entertaining from the beginning till the end. Great to see a diverse crew representing the rainbow nation. I enjoyed the sights, sounds and tastes of Durban. While the plot is not the strongest point of the movie it's makes up for it by a banging soundtrack and beautiful locations. Of course the mandatory Durban bunny chow is worked into the story together with the Zola bud taxi, the samosas, jaleebi and burfee. Also saw the Toyota Corolla, Ford Sierra and the old TV with the bunny aerial, Walkman and VCR. Brought back memories of the 80s and 90s in Durban. Give it a watch you will be entertained!
The Woman King (2022)
A spectacle to be admired
Now this is what cinema is supposed to be, inspiring, beautiful and entertainment at the highest. The performance by Viola is something to behold, the way she embodies the warrior that is the woman king is an amazing transformation indeed. The setting and African backdrop is beautiful and engaging one can only be inspired to see if for oneself. I watched this movie with awe and appreciation for the scale and attention to detail that was prevalent. Shot during COVID times further brings to mind the difficulties and obstacles that had to be overcome to have brought it to fruition. Watch and be inspired!
I Came By (2022)
Great sneak peak into reality
Loved the movie as it portrays accurately what can happen to immigrants in a foreign country. Seeing that you are alone and vulnerable you are preyed upon by the criminal element. In this case the criminal element was a well respected retired judge, Caucasian, male which makes it more compelling. Loved the use of the diverse cast to portray non standard roles, the female black police detective, the male black friend who on the lower rungs of society turns out to be the hero in the end. The Caucasian family that are the victims in the story. The story is well done with great acting and cast development without the gore associated with thrillers of this type. Go on and give it a watch, don't think you will regret it.
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
A beautiful and touching story
An amazing and unique story of a man needing a change in life getting it from an unlikely source. The footage is beautifully shot and the story is well told. It is amazing to watch the octopus and how it interacts with the story teller. Well worth the watch.
