As close as I've seen to an accurate representation so far
6 June 2024
If you are a devotee of Near Dear Experience encounters, ET experiencers, and paranormal investigators you are really going to love this movie. It's the closest thing I've seen so far to an average of all the reported experiences of what life is all about. Some great advice someone gave me once was to hold on to the truth loosely, well this is what this movie does. It gives you a loose visual story and narrative to help convey the ideas of life and death and life review. I think it's brilliant, it brought me to tears on more than one occasion. I wish there were more films like this. By the way I came to find it from a recommendation from "New Thinking Allowed".

Violence just for the sake of violence
19 May 2024
People who are interested in the esoteric are not blood thirsty storm trooper types who wish to punish and viciously beat up people. So many scenes of violence just for the sake of it. It doesn't make any sense to me and it makes the series unwatchable. I can't understand the motivation behind making such a show, just to prove how immune to violence society has become and try to push the boundaries of what you can get away with. I actually feel sorry for the people writing positive reviews who have shut off their emotions to such an extent that they can not only tolerate this violence but enjoy it.

It's a well made documentary
10 February 2024
You're never going to take someone from complete skeptic to believer in 1 and a half hours of television. Having said that if you're already interested and made some attempt to research the phenomena then this is going to ring very true. If you are coming at it stone cold this is a good jumping off point. Reading or listening to Whitley's book communion is a good second step. There is so much more to the Alien story than UAP's (flying saucers). Listening to experiencers is how you really start to get a picture of what is going on. Of course this documentary and no single person is going to give you all the answers, because ultimately we are talking about the meaning of life, and how we all come to be here. Good luck everyone :)

ummm I really need the ending explained please
5 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have read a lot of reviews on this film (admittedly) in English to try and work out the ending. I just want to know one simple thing. How did Violeta end up getting her own concert?

Everything else in the film I could follow, it's just this final piece of the plot which made the film very frustrating for me. It could have ended in any number of ways that made sense and I would have given in at least 8 if not 9 stars.

The acting was good, the music was good, the cinematography great, I didn't even mind what eventually happened to the daughter. It's just that final concert is never explained.

'Kieler Street' it's not, but it should be
26 September 2023
The first episode was pretty good, some suspense and some genuine laughs, and just a little bit of cringe. But then it gets harder and harder to watch. I suspect the writers of the show have seen the really wonderful Scandinavian series 'Kieler Street" (Kielergata), or if they haven't they really should have. Because it's a much better adaptation of the story than Bay of Fires is.

The characters are cliche, 2 dimensional, and it's almost cartoonish. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to this show being set in Tasmania. My wife and I couldn't make it to the end, it's just really bad. :(

wow
22 May 2023
As a male viewer, I was initially hesitant and almost switched off during the first 15 minutes of the opening episode due to the subject matter. However, the exceptional production values, brilliant script, skilled direction, and compelling acting kept me on board, and I'm grateful that they did. This series masterfully builds the drama through its clever use of time cuts. It keeps the audience guessing throughout.

The impressive production values and overall quality of the show are a testament to the talent involved. Kudos to series creator Anna Barnes. I'm looking forward to her next endeavour.

Highly recommended.

I really wanted to like it
19 May 2023
For me the acting, cast, direction, and production values are all fine, it's the script that is the problem. I've watched 5 episodes so far and I'm really struggling to get much further, it's becoming repetitive and less interesting as it goes on. As soon as I heard Cowboy Junkies Sweet Jane being played around episode 2 or 3 they really lost me, it just reminded me how cliche the show was. That was an edgy song for mainstream movies in the 2000's, it's just really unimaginative in the 2020's. And that is what the whole script lacks, imagination. The writers needed to go on some kind of Thai full moon party retreat or Peruvian assisted mediation camp. I'm sorry guys, love seeing Lithgow, but the show is boring me to tears.

Welcome to Flatch (2022–2023)
6/10
"This Country" it is not
16 May 2023
"Flatch," the US adaptation of the popular UK show "This Country," unfortunately fails to capture the same charm that made its predecessor so endearing. The pacing in "Flatch" is notably faster, and the acting tends to be exaggerated, resulting in a more cartoonish feel compared to the believable and understated nature of the original British version. While "This Country" immerses viewers in genuine situations with authentic characters, "Flatch" struggles to recreate that same realistic ambiance.

It is disappointing that the creators of "Flatch" underestimate the attention span of the US audience. There is a desire for the show to slow down, allowing for a more engaging and immersive experience. By giving the viewers the opportunity to fully absorb the story, "Flatch" could offer a more satisfying adaptation that resonates with its audience.

I am not sure who this show is aimed at, Teenagers?
29 March 2023
The production values are good, the cast is good, the direction is good, the acting is good. BUT the dialogue and the storylines are really cliche. I guess it doesn't try to take itself too seriously because there are some intentional light hearted moments. I expect a lot more from a modern police drama, but perhaps I'm just too old for this show. Maybe it's made for teenagers or young adults, it's really hard to tell who the target audience is. I had to stop watching after 2 episodes because it really felt like my IQ was declining as I watched. I am sorry to give it such a low score, some of the elements of the story line which include ideas to improve community policing seemed good, but that was about it.

Farmer Wants A Wife (2023– )

it's surprisingly good
24 March 2023
I know, I know everyone see's the title and thinks another version of the Bachelor or Love Island, but it's not. This show has been running for many seasons in Australia now and has 10 successful relationships which are still running strong.

Of course it's about entertainment and some parts can be a bit hard to watch but this show has a real heart, and it is actually trying to build relationships. It's an alternative to the swipe left or right dating scene that's sadly taken over our modern world.

Give it a chance, you might enjoy it, and if you get hooked on the US version you might want to take a peek at the Aussie one :)

Better (2023)

Great little 4 part series
14 March 2023
As mentioned by quite a few reviewers it WAY better to watch this until the end of episode 4 and then just stop. It's almost as if it was written to end at 4, and 5 is when the interns took over and thought they'd write an alternate ending.

Ending at episode 4 I give it a 9 out of 10. Adding the interns episode I have to water it down to a 7, so just don't watch it.

I don't want a follow up season carrying on from where it left off. However another season where they go back in time to where when Col and Lou first met would be great. It should also include Lou's policeman father and Lou's friend the bent cop Vernon.

Glitch (2015–2019)

It's a lot better than I thought
15 September 2015
Glitch is loosely based on the premise from the French TV series "Les Revenants" which is excellent. For this reason I was hesitant to watch Glitch as I just didn't see how an Australian remake could top the original. I was also worried it might have turned a little more zombie apocalypse. However I was wrong, it's not a remake, and it's not a zombie series. It's takes a different angle on the theme from "Les Revenants" which is refreshing and clever. One of the best things about Glitch is how it never quite gives the game away, and whilst the idea of re-incarnation is a hard sell they never had me scoffing in disbelief. It's clever, and it's twisty turny in it's plot. Another really great aspect to the show is the warm inner glow you will get from time to time with respect to family members, you might be moved to shed a tear, just as "Les Revenants" was prone to do. If they make a season 2, I will be watching.

just terrible
31 August 2014
I have no idea how this movie has attained such a high IMDb rating, it's truly terrible. Great cinematography, a decent cast, but such a stupid implausible story line stretched out way too long. If I had seen it in a cinema I would have walked out for sure.

It's not just that it is historically inaccurate, it's just plain silly. If the "naturals" had wanted the British gone they could have easily killed them off in the first 30 mins.

At one point there were supposed to be 38 British left, but count the people in the battle scene, they must be multiplying. And where the do the children come from?

Don't waste your time.

it's good and it's funny
6 January 2014
Anyone who doesn't like this film, and there are a lot who don't, obviously has no idea of how Hollywood works. It's a funny film, it's got a lot of pace, good performances and lots of stars. The story is quite good, and the reversal of fortunes quite believable.

You don't have to work in Hollywood to understand this movie, a bit of imagination is all it takes.

If you liked "The Player" you will like this. It's Robert Altman type funny. I would also compare it to the Larry David Show.

Also don't stop watching once the credits roll, there are some great parts all the way through to the end.
