Nightflyers (2018)
Excellent show that will lose those that have short attention spans
I'm a hard core sci-fi fan. I started reading Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clarke in High School 35 years ago. And I admit many Sci-fi fans today would probably be bored by those cutting edge (at the time) books. This series is old school and will probably not appeal to 16-year-old boys that play video games all day and suffer from terminally short attention spans. After reading the reviews I can see that some of you just didn't understand what you were watching. The whole crew was affected by the alien entity and the closer the got the more out of control many of the crew members seemed. There were layers upon layers and if you watched it distracted or while you tweeted you would have missed major points. I got much more of an "Event Horizon" or "Contact" vibe than Prometheus (which I barely tolerated) or many of the other movies mentioned. It was entertaining, thought provoking, and made me unhappy to get to the end. Especially to find out there probably won't be a season 2. I did go back to watch one or two episodes to clarify some things. I love not having everything explained and some things open to conjecture. But obviously many of these reviewers were expecting a typical 2 hour blockbuster big budget Sci-Fi movie. I doubt they could sit through "Silent Running" or other classic Sci-fi.
Apparitions (2008)
I hope they shoot more!
This is an excellent show with superb writing. I just discovered it and was disappointed to find there only seem to be six episodes. I would have given it 10 stars if they had made more! It was probably an expensive show to shoot but is still much better than 90% of television on the air. Here's hoping that someone will want to make more. This is what the recent movie featuring Anthony Hopkins should have been had the writing and story line been stronger. I hope if someone buys it they don't try to re-do it in the US as it will probably be a weaker version. I would hate to see it watered down to the Sc-Fi "Being Human" equivalent.
