Captain Planet and the Planeteers (1990)
Good cause, but biased portrayal.
Caring for the environment is not a bad thing. We need the environment - practically and aesthetically. However the cartoon is biased and tends to exaggerate things for simplicity. I understand that it's a children's show and you can't expect it to be rational but still it could have been better. I think the idea behind it is great - a superhero who cares for the earth. But I also think the show should be remade to introduce more rational approaches towards environmental issues or maybe show kids actually cleaning trash with their powers. They should also teach kids to try and find out ways to reduce pollution through science, etc. and not just go kill industrialists. Otherwise this is just an average action cartoon with the extremely good guys vs extremely the bad guys, nothing in between. I enjoyed this cartoon as a kid but this is what I feel now.
The Great Global Warming Swindle (2007)
Environmentalists are NOT anti-human or anti-tech.
I've been doing a lot of research on this matter. And even though more facts affirm global warming, this documentary was refreshing to me because I always appreciate different perspectives.
My main point: It is a wrong idea that environmentalists are evil. I personally, don't care much if the earth is warming or cooling as these are long term effects. I'm more concerned about the present - I do want a clean earth and preservation of ecosystems for aesthetic and practical reasons. So global warming or not, it's the pollution I'm worried about which is irrefutable and overly apparent. Now I'm an engineer and a nature friendly guy. It's a wrong idea that we're against development. I do want development but I just want technology that doesn't pollute. Such technology is development and progression itself.
Secondly the anti-Africa theory is apparently a valid point. But also it should be understood that there might not be any conspiracy at all. Maybe an underdeveloped Africa would just be a consequence if exploitation of oil and gas was to be stopped completely; but that doesn't necessarily mean that preventing development in Africa is a motive to the people behind this supposed global warming propaganda.
Step Up 3D (2010)
It's not drama; it's a fun movie, meant to be watched without being overly critical.
Movie Guy, I'm sorry but I have to disagree. Not every movie has 'acting' and a 'story' in it. There's variety. This is just a fun flick. You just have to broaden your mind.
And a lot of movies are made on things that we watch on TV. That's the whole point. The movie combines them all in a 1.5 hour package, ads more style (if you'd like to put it that way) and story to it, makes it more fun to watch. You can't apply the art-house mentality to every movie out there.
And dancing IS like a "mysterious force", and a "way of life which leads you into wisdom". A lot of people believe in this. Just like one would believe in the power of music or art and or any other aesthetic field. I'm not a dancer, but I'm open to these concepts. The movie has commercialized all these, which is obvious, since this is a mainstream movie.
My judgment: The movie is exciting, but the plot could have been smarter.
