The Three Es (2015)
powerful film that is also refreshing and unique
The Three Es not only tells a powerful story of a family dealing with the tragedy of a loved one injured in war, but does so from a unique perspective. It's an incredibly moving film. It's sad, uplifting, humorous and real all at once. All the more amazing considering the film was made with a shoestring budget. The cast and crew poured their souls into the movie and it really shines through. The lack of budget doesn't hamper the film at all, though. The cinematography is fluid and compelling and the acting is superb. Even the music is great. I don't want to spoil any of the film so I've purposely left out details. Ultimately, this movie is truly a diamond in the rough and you won't be disappointed.
Basic (2003)
Don't read if you haven't seen Basic yet!!!!!
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** Was it just me or did the movie Basic make no sense at all? Here's a few points that I have problems with. They say in the movie that he stumbled on the coke, told the colonel, and the colonel tried to have him killed. Thus Hardy (Travolta) comes up with this plan to save him by faking West's death. First of all, the movie gives the impression that "section 8" has been around for quite some time. However the time frame where West alerts the colonel and then goes into the jungle is one week. Now, the section 8 rumor had no reason to exist other than trying to save West. So in the course of one week did they perpetuate this rumor and spread it so well that it became a crucial part of the storyline. Second, why would the colonel specifically ask Hardy to dig deeper after Hardy got enough out of the "interrogation" to cover the colonel's ass and stop any scandal from emerging? If the colonel is trying to keep everything quiet he wouldn't want Hardy, someone he knows and respects for being extremely smart and an excellent interregator, to dig deep and find out the truth. Which leads to the next point. Why would the colonel want Hardy's help in the first place? If all he wants is a cover up to keep things quiet so he can continue smuggling coke, why would he bring in outside help to "get to the bottom of things" especially considering the fact that he could piece together what happened himself? The colonel would have assumed that the guys he sent out to kill West got in a firefight, and only two rangers lived. Finally, at the end of the movie Cpt. Osborne is offered a job. What kind of job is she offered? Section 8 doesn't really run drugs. They're the good guys, right? So what exactly kind of job is she being offered?
