Mafia II (2010)
One of the best games I've played in quite a while
Mafia 2 is just another GTA clone, that being said, I think it's a lot of fun. I'm going to split this review up in sections and work out an average score afterwards.
Gameplay- The game-play is great; the shoot-outs are very unique as you're required to take cover a lot and plan how you're going to tackle the gun fights as oppose to your typical video game shoot-out in which you just run out, kill 100 people and get shot 100 times and still live. In M2 you die after getting shot about 3/4 times making gun fights more realistic than a lot of other battles in other games. The car chases are also a lot of fun although there aren't actually that many, which may make the game better because this game never once get's repetitive. Most other sandbox games on the Xbox 360/ PS3 DO get repetitive somewhere down the line and they tend to seem to drag on such as Red dead redemption. Don't get me wrong RDR is a great game but the last 10 missions or so with the exception of the very last one were just boring and stale to be honest. Mafia 2 doesn't fail here though and that's definitely one of the best things about it. 9/10.
Graphics- Pretty good on the whole. I don't think the cut-scenes were as realistic as we expected but the city is great and it looks awesome and the cars look quite nice as well, nothing special, but quite nice. Another good thing about the graphics is the fact that there aren't that many glitches and bugs, there are a few but I didn't find them often. 8/10
Sound- Not much to say here but the sound's fantastic; Great voice acting, great SFX and an awesome 40's/ 50's soundtrack that makes you feel as if you actually live in that era. Can't fault it. 10/10
Length- This is the worst part; the game took me about 12 hours to complete and there's no side-missions or multi-player so the last mission is the end of it really and I couldn't help but feel cheated. 5/10
Average score 8/10
2K did a great job all in all and I definitely recommend this game unfortunately though it just doesn't last that long. That being said though there is some brand new DLC coming out which are entirely new games similar to GTA: The lost and damned, which hopefully will make this great experience a little longer.
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Wow!
I'm only 16 and like most other people my age, I grew up watching Toy Story 1 & 2, and when I heard that they were going to make a 3rd Toy Story film I'll be honest, I wasn't actually that excited I was a little disappointed in fact because I thought they would go and ruin a great film franchise by making another film just to make money just like they did with the Godfather series. That said I still went to see it because there is obviously no better place to watch a film than in the cinema I didn't want to miss the opportunity. I was quite simply amazed and I can't understand why I ever thought Toy Story 3 might not be that good.
When I walked into the screening room it was virtually packed of people of all ages; there were people my age, parents with their kids and even adults without kids in there which proves anyone of any can enjoy Toy Story and the best part was that when the credits rolled and they were showing the extra clips at the end of the movie virtually the whole audience remained in their seats to watch the final clips which I guess shows how much they all enjoyed it.
To those who haven't seen the movie yet you definitely should, no question. You've probably also heard that this movie is very sad if you haven't seen it yet, and that's true it is sad at times but it's also very funny at others and I even found it thrilling in some parts as well. How Pixar managed to make adults cry over a group of toys that don't even exist I'll never know- but that's the genius behind the movie.
Family Guy: Brian & Stewie (2010)
is the episode even legal?
I live in England so I managed to watch "Partial terms of endearment" when it aired for the very first time and I hated it, I said it was without a doubt the worst episode of this once great show and that it was so bad that they wouldn't be able to make to make an episode that bad again; how wrong I was. I decided to stop watching new episodes after seeing that particular one but I decided to watch this episode because I thought it would be "something special" being the 150th episode, but yet again I was wrong. I didn't laugh at all for the first five minutes and then it got to the toilet humour section, and I was disgusted when Stewie implied what he wanted Brian to do, (I'm sorry but I'm not going to mention it if yo haven't already seen it), and I was relieved when Brian refused. Then Brian decides to change his mind and I was literally shocked, and I couldn't believe the writers actually did what they did.
Anyway the episode goes on and I didn't laugh once, and people say "but it's not supposed to be a funny episode," but that's exactly what Family Guy is! Comedy! I didn't watch this to listen to Brians petty problems or watch a drama show, I wanted to watch something funny. After watching the episode I went to Wiki to see what some professional reviews were, and it said that there was a part were Brian did something even worse than I'd already seen him do which BBC3 refused to air. Again I won't say what it is but I couldn't help but wonder if this was even legal, and I generally wouldn't be surprised if the show was banned off T.V after this episode. That said to be honest with episodes with the quality of this one and PTOE I genuinely couldn't care either.
Family Guy: Partial Terms of Endearment (2010)
just terrible
i think family guy was once without a doubt one of the best shows on t.v, but when season 5 came along its obviously gone down-hill. season 7 was awful and and i was hoping that season 8 would return to family guys roots because i think season 2 is the best season of any show ever, but lately the show has gotten worse and worse. anyway, I've been really let down by season 8 so far and this episode was probably the worst so far in any season. the jokes just don't work, the way brian over-acts about peter being anti-abortion was pathetic and the fact that lois decided to get the abortion and peters stupid joke at the end has put me off lois, peter and brian for good possibly, which is a shame because peter used to be hilarious and brian used to be a PERFECT supporting character, but now the show just generally isn't funny at all and the characters are awful, and this episode is a perfect example of that, it's just dead and there's no other real way to describe it.
