Great alien-invasion movie with all of the classic elements
23 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
You get to SEE the aliens! Yes! Finally. A movie that doesn't just hint at them and show flashes on the screen.

Lots of jump scares yes - but there is a lot of creeping and stress-inducing scenes as well. There are a few tropes but there is somewhat of a twist that adds freshness to it.

There is not a word of dialogue in the movie and it isn't that noticeable. One review here complains of it but I didn't notice until it was pointed out to me.

Great acting by the main and almost singular character. There are a few moments where she does something illogical - but you can expect that to keep an alien movie moving along.

Great to have all the facts
8 April 2023
Wonderful to watch this well produced documentary after viewing The Lost King. The journey, almost from the start of the dig, is well laid out, the excitement and facts constantly building up as each new find is added on.

I do have a complaint though. Simon Farnaby, who really just inserted himself into this, has made himself very much the focus and voice of the find even though he had so very little to do with it. He is just a host - nothing more. It is such a shame that he purposefully overshadows the actual team behind the discovery instead of playing the narrator, explaining the story as we go along. The whole time it's "our skeleton" even though he is just following along as the real experts lead the way. Quite a turn off.

A shame
22 January 2023
They did one episode like this before - and it was painful. Why they decided to return is anyone's guess. Mine? It is an easy (and lazy) way to make content. Unfunny improvised skits are turned into alternate universe "television shows". The problem is they are really not brilliant. The animators do their best to try to turn them into a proper gag but whoever thinks they are brilliant enough to just talk nonsense and have it come out as comedy needs an ego check.

The main storyline is alright but makes up only a little over half of the episode. Why such a smart show as Rick and Morty would focus so much time on episodes of quality only to dump this on us? Only the creators truly know.

Rick and Morty: Rixty Minutes (2014)
Season 1, Episode 8

Terrible episode. Improv scenes are not funny at all.
11 January 2023
Sadly what could have been a solid episode is ruined by ongoing 'improv' bits that are then animated and presented as alternate world TV channels. There is nothing funny about them. They all lean on 'random = funny' which is a shame since Rick and Morty at least tries to have somewhat smart jokes (relative to other adult cartoons).

To make matters worse, once you think the episode is done IT ISNT. Another minute of silly, early-teen humour to get through.

Do yourself a favour and skip this one. Or make dinner during it? I've said enough but have to fill this up a bit more. It's an animated sitcom, how in-depth do they expect me to go? Oh there.

I'll tell you why!
28 November 2022
People enjoy poking their noses into the lives of the rich and famous. So of course they're interested in Martha and her (hoarding of) antiques. Yes it's vapid and silly - but that's part of the point. Very interesting to see what Martha owns, what her style is, who she rubs elbows with and her farm (which I am very envious of).

Is the show for everyone? Nah. If you like antiques you'll like this. If you like Martha and antiques you'll LOVE this. If not - move on. They do go into detail about a few pieces but nothing too in depth. Really the attraction is Martha.

The interactions between Martha and her peacocks is something that should be studied.

Also it was all for charity!

Not the Poirot die-hards are looking for - but let yourself in on the fun.
16 April 2022
Does it stray from the book? Yes. Is Poirot not the one that Agatha wrote? Yes. But don't let that deter you.

The visuals and great acting from other cast members make this movie a fun ride - which is really all that it should be. Don't take it too seriously (it's just a 'Cozy Murder' after all!). For a more straight-cut Death on the Nile check out Suchet's version.

Don't let the uptight purests dissuade you. Watch it! Having both versions available to us is wonderful. I hope to see more big budget Christie coming down the pipeline in the future.
