Wild Wild Country (2018)
Fascinating portrayal of a story that had to be told. A few negatives.
Wow. How did I miss this one for the past 5 years? So timely too with the fringe cults currently wreaking havoc in the U. S. There will always be cults. Humanity desires a sense of belonging. Egomaniacs are being born right now. It is a shame all cults end up damaging their followers in some way. I am so grateful this documentary was made to bring awareness about cults and will serve as a historical archive and reminder.
Unfortunately, I did not like some of the directing, video, and audio. There was constant noise in the background. Foreboding music that didn't seem to belong, clacking, buzzing, and thuds are examples. I would've liked Sheela interviews to be just her voice, no background noise. There is repeat footage in episode 4, so much that I kept checking to be sure I wasn't viewing episode 1 or 2. And I kept waiting for more videos of the man with 5 names, Bhagwan. Like wth is it about him? Every video of him was like he was on drugs. The super slow speaking wasn't convincing to me. That man was on freaking drugs. Weirdo. People are so dumb to follow anything like this . Don't do it!
Fatherhood (2021)
Kevin Hart is good, the rest is terrible
I love Kevin Hart. I love Kevin Hart movies, Kevin Hart stand-up, Kevin Hart everything. I loved Kevin Hart in this movie...to a point. I was impressed with Kevin's acting in this movie. However, he was carrying the weight of this movie. Clearly, by the time they paid Kevin Hart as lead actor and producer, they didn't have enough money to hire good, appealing supporting actors. The one guy reminded me so much of that "Hills Have Eyes" crazy looking bald dude that I had to stop watching the entire movie! He and the other supporting actor/Kevin Hart's friend, were NOT funny or appealing to watch. Also disappointing was Alfre Woodard. Her acting seemed forced. Ugh. I so wanted to love this movie. Seeing that the movie has gotten only 6 stars so far, this could've been a 7, 8, 9 star movie if it had better ensemble cast. Tom Brady wins Super Bowls because he knows he cannot win a super bowl without a great team. I am not a Brady fan, but have learned by him. He has foregone raises and more money to allow teams he's on to recruit a great supporting cast, so he can win super bowls. Kevin, you picked terrible cast mates, director, writers, etc. Learn from this.
Murder in the Bayou (2019)
Something is wrong here
It amazes me that in this day and age a certain part of the US is immune to scrutiny, immune to FBI helping out. Pathetic and disgusting with DNA and I'm sure insider info these murder victims haven't been vindicated. Seriously? 8 people murdered in a little parish? Sorry, but the families are on their own, the American way. No one clearly cares a damn. Great documentary. Thank God for tell all pieces like this!
The L Word: Generation Q (2019)
Something's wrong
I loved the original L Word so much so that I watched all seasons three times. Something felt off from the first scene of Generation Q. Bad writing? Bad directing? Bad set design or filming? I missed the homegrown feeling of the original L Word. I just didn't feel connected to any of the new characters or the former characters reprising roles. It didn't flow like the former series. I am not a critic. I can only share my experience. I couldn't wait for the former series' new episodes. It took me five tries to finish the first episode of Genetation Q. I don't know what it will take for me to get motivated to watch episode 2. Maybe they should've kept the show's main location at Bette's sister's coffee shop. I think younger viewers unfamiliar with the original L Word might receive this new series better than those of us who tuned in for season 1, episode 1 from the day it premiered.
I Like You Just the Way I Am (2016)
They are so much better in real life
I was looking forward to this show because Jenny and Jason are hilarious on the Chelsea Handler show. Unfortunately, them playing themselves wasn't all that funny. They really need a reality show of their life. I'd watch that over and over. Possibly the fact the show is just a snippet wasn't all that appealing. Definitely needed more content. I didn't find Busy Philips funny at all. Seemed overall forced. The topics were funny topics but would've been funnier if it was real life. I guess you wouldn't be wasting your time watching these episodes as they are so short. But, I'd recommend skipping if you are a fan of Jenny's and Jason's. I read her books and they were great. They aren't so great imitating about real-life topics. Please give these two a reality show!
