Too Big to Fail (2011)
Well cast. Fair summary of complex issues
Scene that summarizes the whole debacle best: Evan Handler as Lloyd Blankfein responding to someone complaining about being called before Paulson... "Relax, you just got out of a chauffeur driven Mercedes in New York..." The US economy is collapsing around their ears, due to them, and they don't think twice about sending their dollars overseas... In the years since, legislation has come pouring in to rein in and control... mortgage brokers and appraisers. !?! Banks claimed mortgage brokers were coercing appraisers to come in high. They were not and didn't need to; prices were climbing and comps supported that. So now, appraisers and mortgage brokers can no longer speak to each other. Appraisers must be hired by Appraisal Management Companies. Guess who owns the AMC's? The banks. Appraisals are now coming in below comps to minimize the bank's exposure. The appraisals are not portable. If you switch banks, you must order a new appraisal so that their AMC can make money. Mortgage brokers have new, redundant licensing, plus background check, finger printing and credit checks that don't apply to the banks. I genuinely hope someone is working on the sequel to portray some of this. Working title: You Thought We Were Too Big Before?
Annihilation Earth (2009)
Not unwatchable
Marina has a great natural accent. She has a long list of accents they have stuck her with and I wish they would stop doing that to her.
The acting was OK, the effects were OK... this film is not "Gone With The Wind" and there are holes, but I wanted to see what happened next; that is usually a good sign for earning a degree of entertainment value.
Editing whoops: after Raja's import stalls on the side of the road, he gets out, looks around, gets back in and there is no head-rest on the passenger seat. When they come up and knock on his window, the head rest is back.
