Another Earth (2011)
Average movie, good music and cinematography
I was rather looking forward to this movie, but was quite disappointed when I saw it. It's slow paced and quite predictable.
It was pretty obvious early on that the other earth was exactly the same as our world. It was also obvious, especially after the scene where the SETI scientist talks to her other self, that the similarity would be broken once the two worlds interact with each other. And yet the movie chooses to reveal this very late, making it painfully slow and boring.
There are also lots of scientific errors in the movie. It seems like the science was conveniently chosen to fit the storyline of the movie.
However, it's interesting to experience the girl's trauma, as you oscillate between demonizing her, to pitying her. The music is wonderful.
The Crush (2010)
Useless Movie
I found this movie ridiculous. A kid who argues like and thinks like an adult, and the slow and stupid responses of the adults are just too unreal. When the kid was holding the gun, the woman could have easily snatched it away, and yet she just chose to sit and watch the drama. The dialogue of the man criticizing his girlfriend just before being shot also seems like it was forced so that a story would come out of it. It's an amateur film. I'm surprised it has such a high rating. There's nothing real or interesting in the movie. In the end, the kid conveniently decides not to marry her after all, after the entire drama.
Lord of the Flies (1990)
Viewpoint of a 15 yr. old guy
I did not intend to see this movie. I was just surfing. But something made me watch it.
It was amazing. One of the best films i've ever seen. To depict the emotions they were experiencing fluidly was a really difficult challenge, and the movie managed to do it. I've not seen any other "lord of the flies" movie. But I find it hard to believe it can be made in a better manner.
The ending was very abrupt, and left me breathless for more...it was completely unexpected. But what I loved the most was the storyline. How seemingly normal teens (or preteens), can change in the absence of order. And I realised that it was absolutely true. What was shown in the movie was so natural, it didn't feel like a movie.
If you can remember and understand yourself in that age, hardened in the army, but still a child, you'll love the movie.
