Victorious (2010)
Victorious: Not as Victorious as you think. Good on occasion; nothing extravagant.
First things first; this review is written by someone in the age group it's targeted to, so I'm not biased in any way, shape or form, so I'm going to cut to the chase instead of explaining the whole plot; I think this show is good, though nothing special. First, I'd like to start off with the plot. How did Trina get into that school to start with? She's the reason Tori is in the school, but how did she get in it to begin with? It's shown on several occasions that her level of talent is in no way, shape, or form, higher than that of a person that can't do anything right as far as the fine arts goes. So how did she get in? I think the producers should've thought this out a little more, because the only reason I can see Trina being there is because they needed something in the pilot episode.
Second, I'd like to make a remark on the characters. They're too stereotypical; sure we have stereotypes, but they're never quite as plainly obvious as they are in this show. And people from different cliques, according to what I've seen, just don't mix together. So how exactly are the main characters friends if they're completely different? I can understand how that happens in real life, but these characters aren't compatible in any way and just seemed to be thrown together into the plot to show diversity in the cast, nothing else.
Now, there are some good points in this show. Occasionally, the show has its funny moments, but it's basically iCarly all over again with slight changes, and I'm not quite fond of iCarly, either. The plot is rather original compared to what I was expecting from it. But like I said, there are some funny comments, but a lot of them are more funny without the laugh track going off every ten seconds to cue when we're supposed to laugh (because some things aren't funny at all).
I like this show compared to some of the other things I've seen, but when it all comes down to it, it's just too much of a work in production with too many unexplained flaws to count as a decent show. Maybe if it wasn't a Nickelodeon show, it would be better, because Nickelodeon is a channel that attempts to appeal to the younger audience, and mind you, I'm in the audience range for this show and I don't particularly enjoy it. Had it been on a channel that's more for teenagers than for younger kids, it would've had more comic elements since this channel takes out all of the moderately funny things they could insert in the situations in fear of it being too inappropriate.
Overall, it's nothing special. I'd watch it if it came on a few times, but I wouldn't watch the show religiously or anything.
