The Return of Dracula (1958)
Terrible film...
One of the worst Dracula films I have ever seen. No fangs,no turning into a bat, he walked in the sunlight and he was not intimidating looking at all. Poor acting throughout the film. Jenny tiptoes into the morgue and not only opens the crypt and coffin ,gets in it and somehow lifts and raises it back into the wall. Amazing !! The inspector from Europe just happens to know Old Drac is hiding in Carleton, California. Carleton, California, I would have looked there first too !!! Absolutely fabulous.Bad film. The ending isn't TOO predictable. Watch this on a rainy do-nothing day , otherwise, pass. Also, the credits have Hope Sommers of Andy Griffith fame( Claar) as annoying Cornelia, but in truth is hag Belle Mitchell.
Orgy of the Dead (1965)
Very silly film....
This movie is Ed Wood on drugs. Man is it awful. But if you like Ed Wood you must watch it. It is a silly plot of a couple stumbling on a graveyard of dead exotic dancers being whipped and semi-nude. They are tied at stakes(not real well either) and forced to watch the orgy of the dead. Also on hand are a silly looking mummy and wolf man.The infamous Criswell as the emperor and his cohort Ghoulita emcee the great dance. You will have the impulse to fast forward because you start to lose it after awhile. Some of the dancing is worth watching for belly laughs , especially the pussy cat whipping dance. The music sounds like its from the Jackie Gleason Show. Classic. Criswell makes some interesting comments as the evening goes on. The hero of the movie is the sun as it comes out early and destroys all in view. Have some alcohol handy as you watch this, it will help. Remember The pussycat was born to be whipped.
Bride of the Monster (1955)
Hilarious !!!
This is my favorite film of all time. You probably think I am gone, but it is so funny and cheesy , I can't get enough of it. Bela Lugosi is at his greatest in this one. He takes the role so serious. The scene where he dismisses Lobo by the fireplace with some type of hand movement is priceless.Watch closely and you will see Bela crack up when Lobo leaves, like he was screwing with him. Funny. The rest of the cast is just plain awful, especially the police chief with the bird on his shoulder. So many flubs and miscues makes the movie so enjoyable.Lugosi looking thru the window and making tremendous face gestures as he watches the monster octopus swim in his pond is great. The final confrontation in the lab has a stand-in Lugosi in high heeled shoes fighting Lobo. Can you tell? The ending and the atom bomb explosion, chasing old Bela on the hill, just a riot.I recommend this film highly on a nice rainy evening with nothing going on. I loved it.
Pharaoh's Curse (1957)
Pretty poor film
I saw this movie last weekend and it is silly and mindless. An ancient curse turns a man into a mummy in his pajamas? The victims are scared senseless and can not run from a slow moving old man. They drop their torches and shiver instead of attempting to ward him off or,duh, burn him. Quentin alias Mr. Fabersham of the Honeymooners is married to Diane Brewster alias Miss Canfield of Leave it to Beaver fame, who is unhappy in marriage. Wow, love plot. The rest of the cast just follows each other in the tombs and wait for screams to react and run to their aid. The Egyptian girl is not bad looking but does not lend much to the film. Where is the mummy? Really just a curse unleashed. This does not hold a torch to Universal Mummy films in the least.Watch this movie if you need sleep, because you will dose off.
