Great movie - quirky and original !
23 July 2022
This was a well written and well acted movie. I loved how the characters were ordinary relatable people and how they basically screwed over a big lottery firm by exploiting a loophole in the system.

The competition between the small towns folk and the well educated kids was a nice touch too as it injected a bit more action into the movie.

If you like movies like 21 and Tower Heist, this is right up your alley.

Up there with some of the great rags to riches sports movies
19 March 2022
I am not a fan of American Football nor do i know anything about the guy this was based on - however i do like a good sports movie - the sort where characters overcome a variety of challenges to make it in their field. And this is one of those !

It is a top movie. It has everything - it has heart, it has character, it has humour and it is relatable ! We have all been there where Kurt was. Some of us are still stuck there - but to see a guy lie him make it after being knocked down hard - it it the stuff movies are here for !

Give it a watch - you wont be disappointed !

A Funny, Heartwarming Movie that makes a great watch
19 March 2022
This was a surprisingly good movie. It is a comedy and quite lighthearted, yet it deals well with the deep topics of PTSD and the struggles soldiers go through when leaving the service.

It is not so deep that it isn't watchable for children - so makes a good family movie. It has a lot of laughs and the dog is a great animal actor !

The Ending Makes the Entire Show Pointless and Stupid !
19 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So the great reason that Leo Newman was kidnapped for was ................... one scientists views on climate change was hidden by his mum ! Really - that is what they went with as the reason for the entire elaborate scheme ! And it was orchestrated by the scientists long lost daughter who never really knew him ! Again .... What ? Why ?

As a result of this utterly stupid plot - all the other characters were rendered useless. So this crazy daughter decides to throw innocent people under the bus to save the reputation of a father she never knew. We are supposed to believe that she went to such lengths because they all believe that the work of one guy could have saved the world - even though his revelations were not new or groundbreaking and were pretty ordinary really.

This is just another PC load of nonsense where they hide a political agenda within a mainstream TV series. Without this feature the series could have been ok (apart from the glaring plot holes they failed to plug up). What a waste of a series !

A Blatant Copy of Stars in Their Eyes - without any of the charm !
16 February 2022
Stars in their Eyes was a great show. It worked because it showcased the talent of an individual and the talent of the wardrobe team. It also had a good presenter and worked well as a show.

This was just auful. The presenters were too full of themselves and the focus was more on them and what they had to say. They fawned over ever star on the show so it made their dialogue pointless, and the presenter was just lacking any character.

The stars were ordinary people - but because the presentations were done as groups of three - none were able to shine as individuals. The musical numbers were rushed and lacked the pizazz of the original show. Again all the focus was on the judges - which it shouldn't be ! This type of show does not fit in the X-Factor style of presentation !

Just another failure by ITV !!

They Aren't Even Farmers !!
13 February 2022
I gave up on this show when they were introducing the girls team. Only one was an actual farmer. One worked for British Dressage and one worked for an engine manufacturer. This third one was the only one who had ever participated in any kind of racing. From the introductions it was obvious they had been chosen for their looks rather than because they were farm girls who could drive a tractor !

The boys team wasn't much better. Again one was a farmer (sort of) - he worked for a logging company, one was a welder who messes around with off roaders in his spare time, and it wasn't quite clear what experience the third one had.

So why call the series Fast and the Farmer-ish - if they have barely even got any farmers in the show !

The young teens they chose for the show were all very wooden and it was obvious when they were reading scripted lines. The host - a youtuber - wasn't much better. The host basically acted like an excited kid throughout and failed to engage the audience.

All in all the show just falls a bit flat. The production team could learn a thing or two from watching the American and Australian tractor races !!

Oh Dear - They Ruined an Amazing Show !!
22 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I adored Lucifer when it began and joined the campaign to prevent its early cancellation. The first few series were amazing and deserved a 10/10.

However seasons 5 and 6 were appalling. Season 5 was completely forgettable and very little happened throughout (with the exception of the final episode) - and season 6 was a waste ! Instead of focusing on Lucifer becoming God - they went and introduced a new character - for the final season ? That made no sense at all !

Why focus on a convoluted timeline revolving around a new daughter and a load of nonsense about time travel - when you already had a great storyline to work with i.e. The Lucifer being God angle !

The writers and director really let the fans down on this one - it was Game of Thrones all over again !

NCIS: Hawai'i (2021–2024)

It's Ok if you ignore the setting.
22 September 2021
NCIS Hawaii is an ok watch. Ignore the fact it is set in Hawaii and that it tries too hard to prove the point - and you get an ok show.

It is not as good as the original NCIS by a long shot and is on par with NCIS Orleans for cheesiness.

There are some decent actors in the show but i am not sure about the female lead yet and whether she has the skill to pull it off or not without stepping into the cliques about feminism and woman power etc.

I am willing to give a second episode a shot to find out.

Americans Know Nothing About Europe - Again !
22 September 2021
American writers and directors should not attempt any form of series set abroad without significant help from the natives ! Once again this show makes Americans appear very arrogant and ignorant about anything outside of America !

It makes out that all European / International Police forces are full of incompetant and corrupt idiots and that only the FBI can do the job correctly ! I highly doubt that the FBI are allowed to storm in and take over an investigation in a foreign country like they do in this show !

The premise is just backward and wont work.

The characters in the show are bland and their acting is wooden. They have nothing that makes you want to pay attention to them. This show just fails.

A Sweet Light-hearted Aussie Drama
1 September 2021
I agree with the reviewers who give a lower rating because of the first episode (which essentially tries to cram too much in at once), however if you give the show a chance it does develop into something much better.

If you are a fan of light hearted dramas such as 1000 words - i think you will like this. Several of the actors are established Aussie actors who you will recognise if you have watched many other recent dramas - including Five Bedrooms.

The story revolves around the RFDS and the crisis they face, however the show deals with this in such a way that you can't help connect with those affected.

It is sweet and heart felt and a nice light easy watch. It keeps out modern politics and all the social nonsense you watch TV to avoid.

The only annoyance with the show is the English Doctor's son. He is just a whiney child who acts far younger than his age. The show doesn't really connect with his character, and the actor who plays him is so wooden that you are glad of that !

Romulus (2020– )

Brilliant Production - Refreshing and Entertaining.
6 December 2020
This is an excellent series. I have just watched all the episodes and have to say, it is the best historical series TV has seen for a long time.

I will list some of the positives for this show:

1 - The language is Latin ! The producers actually went to the effort of bringing in experts to teach the entire cast the correct pronunciation of the words etc ! That is some dedication !

2 - The story of Romulus and Remus is fictional yet ingrained n the history of Rome. So it allows a lot of freedom with the storyline as it is a ledged, not historical fact. As such the series could explore many angles without leaving you puzzled as to whether they are altering a historical timeline for dramatic effect.

3 - It doesn't hold back. Like Game of Thrones, there is blood and sex, but it is not as gratuitous as Game of Thrones. It actually fits into the storyline. Their is mud, mess and blood. It actually looks and feels as though you are in historic Italy, rather than on a Hollywood set or seeing a Hollywood ideal of history (where everyone is in full makeup etc).

4 - It has action and intrigue. It isn't predictable. You don't know who is going to die when, or how. You are not sure how the storyline will play out until you get there. I can get very easily bored with a lot of movies and programmes - but this kept me focussed throughput !

5 - It is just good TV !

Great Laugh, Really Cute Comedy
25 February 2019
I was a bit worried when i saw Rebel Wilson was in this, as some of her recent movies have been a bit flat. However she was perfect for this role as an anti-romantic thrust into a cliched Rom-Com.

It was a really good laugh and a great feel good movie. The actors worked perfectly together and the comedy was flawless. I loved that it poked fun at a lot of classic Rom-Coms.

If you want a light hearted laugh -- go and see it !

If you want a well scripted, flawlessly acted, serious, oscar winner - don't bother.

Load of Nonsense
19 January 2018
Now i know it is not supposed to be a historical drama - but really they could have tried to be a bit more realistic with the setting etc. The Americans may love it but us Brits wont.

I have no idea where it is supposed to be set - but aside from one beach, nothing looks remotely like Britain - especially Southern Britain where the Romans landed. They use a pentagram and runes in the title scenes - which have nothing to do with the early tribes of Britain, the people dress like Romans, have some really distinct regional accents and look and act like a bunch of animals !

It is an insult to the tribes of Britain that fought off the Romans and held them at bay for so long ! In fact they have completely ignored the fact that the people were tribal - instead it appears that there was just one lot living here according to the producers !

If it wants to be a fantasy - that is great, advertise it as such. If they were trying for historical drama - they failed so badly ! It is a shame as it has some great actors in it !

Something Refreshing and Different - suitable for most !
22 December 2017
I normally like light hearted comedies and sci fi / fantasy type programmes. I don't really like comic book based series or horror or gore or anything like that. However this has just enough of everything to satisfy everyone, but not so much that it would put off people like myself. It has just enough gore, just enough violence, just enough comedy, just enough drama, just enough sci-fi and fantasy and just enough comic book tales - combined with excellent acting, a great script and decent visuals - this makes this programme a great all rounder suitable for pretty much everyone.

It is weird and bonkers - after all it has a purple flying unicorn in it, but strangely compelling ! You can't help wanting to see how the story develops or wondering why things are as they are. As of episode 3, the backstories of the main characters begin to emerge and a few things start making sense, whilst others remain a complete mystery.

I am looking forward to seeing where this goes as it has the potential to be a winner !!
