Another Masterpiece for Turkish cinema from Ezel Akay.
27 February 2010
Yet again too much for its audience, who are not able to break their dogmatic historical beliefs.

Previous title from Ezop (Ezel AKAY), was a silver-screen remake of infamous shadow theater play, Hacivat and Karagöz suffered the same reaction. Turkish people are not ready to deal with the image of history in their minds, not ready to accept that the historical characters had their own lives. Movie of Hacivat and Karagöz was , although hammered with realism of Osman Hamdi, a historical comedy. Most of the Jokes were inspired by daily lives of ordinary inhabitants of modern Turkey. Of course there would be inconveniences, the plot is 14th century Bursa, the inspirations about Ottoman lives were from 19th century painter(Osman Hamdi Bey) and lives of modern Turks. Most critics were stuck with warrior dresses of women corps (no hijab), let me tell you some more, coffee was not invented until 2 centuries later, and the best one till middle of 15th century Call to prayer was in Turkic(hope i am not insulting your beliefs). Why didn't anybody criticize this? Although i do not refuse poor performance of some actors, but the rest were superb.

Critics about 7 kocalı Hürmüz, is surprisingly centered on costumes and decorations, which i fell in love at first sight. As much as Hacivat and Karagöz used realist aspects, 7 Kocalı Hürmüz used surrealism of Ottoman miniatures, which left a taste between Smurffs and Simpsons in my cerebrum. Especially 19th century Istanbul was hilarious(much unlike 1001 nights view a western audience would guess, a Turkish would demand), Costumes were extremely surrealist( except for old men in tea garden and handsome Medic),even German Pasha was a mere clown. But hey we are back to comedy genre.

Ezel was mistaken in one point. Trade, mother of all evil, Turkish people wouldn't like(cos they wouldn't understand) such complexity in jokes, set and costume design, and reviewing history from an angle different than they "want to" imagine. They would want to see cheap productions(and cheapest humor) like Maskeli Besler. Another commercial failure for him and for Turkish Cinema.

Perhaps i am looking from an engineer perspective(Ezel is also an engineer), I loved the movie as it is now, and i think both movie and sound track are a must have. It took me to my childhood, as if i was reading Alice in Wonderland, or an Ökkeş story once more, watching my favorite cartoons (not excluding Tom and Jerry), and the best songs from my baby brother. This is more valuable than priceless.

Armenian Revolt (2006 Video)
1/10
hmm very nice critics about a document
21 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
genocide genocide is that the only word in thousands years old Armenian language... do you know what the genocide is just look to the people i turkey from Caucasus, Balkans and Crimea no need to say something else about genocide.

massacres inflicted by Armenians to hamshins, Kurds, turks and Tatars (azeris of today) why its always found out only Muslim graves in eastern Anatolia rather than so called genocided Armenians?? where are their graves if such big population were wiped out there must be a proof left where are those, under black sea as Caucasians? or inside the village wells of east Anatolia, if you are blaming someone or a society you must prove it else you are liar, turks have many proofs from late 19th century to 1991 hocalı where are Armenian proofs. Turks can prove that Armenians are terrorists just you prove that turks are genosiders. Wake up from your long tailed tale if turks wanted to genocide Armenians what made them wait 900 years who could resist against that will of 3 super powers ruled the region. and where did the Armenians reproduce so much again all over the world. if 1.5 million of less than 2 million of them are killed in the first quarter of century how come they are now 10 million across the world 1-to-20(if all beings are at a reproductive age)in only 3-4 generations and in such poverty what a fast reproduction rate...

Tarkan (1969)
10/10
The First Official Tarkan Movie
11 October 2005
The best adaptation of a comic book (better than lucky Luke anyway:)) The Hunnic comic hero Tarkan (a phenomenon in Turkey) is an Akinci (commando) of Attila khan of Huns (not king, king is bey, khan is emperor) Tarkan is a son of a Beg in Caucasus and orphaned by Alans in his first birthday ceremony adopted by a she-wolf(its very common in Turkish myths) and raised as a wolf after some time a Hunnic man survived from Alan massacre finds him and teaches him to be a knight(the first knight known is him also) to avenge his tribe... In his adventures Tarkan deals with sorcery(mostly women), trickery (mostly from West Romans and Chinese) and treachery (of minor nations). Unlike western or eastern heroes of today Tarkan isn't a super hero like Conan or Sinbad he is the best wrestler ,excellent swordsman, he is vulnerable in some senses (like nationalism and humanism) he can be arrested, he doesn't like to live socially (his best friend is his Wolf) he is loyal to his Khan etc etc... If you have liked Gladiator you will love Tarkan movies as its original in lot senses they are similar but the end....

Gladiator (2000)

Nice movie but is this original
11 October 2005
Movie is technically very fine i have watched in theater twice and i like it much as lots of turks but sometime after the reason why we loved this movie became clear this was only a western look over an old Turkish movie series Tarkan... Maximus was so Turkic that he was wearing lamb fur(lamb was introduced by Huns to Europe) instead of bright armors of Romans,Like Tarkan he rides along his wolf, his family has been murdered by his foes ... you can claim that these may be inspirations of Ridley Scott from Tarkan but there are some scenes taken directly from Tarkan movies...

1- Maximus fights a big German guy - Tarkan's fight against Giant Orso both are under snow.. 2- After the fight in arena, emperor orders death- neither Tarkan nor Maximus kill the victims. 3-The scene of birds over Rome 4-The appear order and camera movements in the arena

at least the final is different, Maximus dies though Tarkan is immortal
