The Butler (2013)
Deeply moving, authentic performances!
I loved this movie and was moved to tears throughout the film. I want to take my 13 year old to see it because it's a very important American history lesson that we should all know about and remember. Young people need to learn how it was and how we got to where we are and this film tells that story through one man and one family. Forest Whitaker is astounding and should get an Oscar nomination as well as Oprah Winfrey who is just powerful. Their family scenes just crackle with tension, sexuality, love and pain. She has many moments, but one of them...well, let's just say it's the scene they'll show at the Oscars. The sons are beautifully cast as well. I found the arc of the main character was so powerful and beautifully told, I was moved beyond words by the end. Everyone should see this movie.

Take young people to see this film
This is such a powerful story and it is powerfully told. Young people should see this film to understand our history. I took my 13 year old and he was riveted, outraged, saddened and uplifted. The movie doesn't get into the glory days....it tells the story of the beginning...how unthinkable it was, what he had to face. I thought there were some truly brilliant moments where I couldn't speak. Powerful lessons here. Brilliant acting by all involved. Great to see Harrison tackle such a crusty, older character and he does a great job. Chadwick Boseman and Nicole Behari are stellar and pitch perfect. TR Knight is unrecognizable and hilarious. Chris Meloni fantastic....and John McGinley just superb as the baseball announcer. No one took you "out" of the period....they all did a great job and I highly recommend this movie.

Do not waste your time and money on this propaganda
Just read the review in Variety for a fair and balanced review of this piece of propaganda. That is all it is and I would encourage you to not waste your money or contribute to this drivel in any way. I find it outrageous that it is even called a "documentary". Please. It is highly irresponsible to play on the fears of their target audience and inflame them in such a way as this film seeks to do as it is released oh so transparently just before the convention and upcoming election. This is an opinion piece, although I question if this D'Souza character actually believes any of this or if he is just paid an exorbitant amount of money to make this film seem serious. I find it outrageous that theaters are even screening it. Booooooooooo. Really, D'Souza, how do you sleep at night? This is what you dedicate your life to? Sad.
