Flypaper (1999)
A very bad movie. Trust me.
Heed the advice of those comparing it poorly to Pulp Fiction. It is clearly trying very hard to imitate the the style of that movie, as many filmmakers were attempting at that time. It fails miserably at it. In fact, it fails miserably at even matching the low quality of "Two Days In The Valley", another piece of cinematic crap which failed miserably at attempting to imitate Pulp Fiction. (OTOH, "Two Days" is far more disappointing than "Flypaper" due to its stellar cast.) If you enjoy movies like Pulp Fiction, or Get Shorty, or Fargo, or Snatch, then see THOSE movies. This movie is a total waste of time. Plus, to add insult to injury, the multiple story lines have no payoff. They end in the middle of nowhere like unfinished highways miles before they reach a destination.
Lost in Space (1965)
Absolutely Dreadful Series
Incredibly silly sci-fi series from the mid-60's. Even as a child, I hated it for so many reasons, the main one being the presence of the incredibly annoying Dr. Smith. Why did they drag him along with them every time the ship took off each week? I couldn't understand why they didn't just leave him on the planet with a sandwich and a canteen. (The same way Gilligan would have been found floating face down in the lagoon, if I was the Skipper!)
This was sci-fi for children, except that I was a child and still hated it. OTOH, I loved Star Trek, which attempted to show man's foray into space in a realistic and believable manner, instead of as a cartoonish vaudeville comedy that made Jerry Lewis' films look like fine art. I will admit, however, that the early B&W episodes, especially the series opener, were far superior to the color episodes that followed. Smith was dark, evil, and menacing in those episodes, instead of the effeminate, selfish, and cowardly fool he became.
If you are looking for non-Star Trek sci-fi nostalgia from that era, then seek out "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" (which also got quite silly after a while, but never to the level of LIS), "The Time Tunnel", "Land of the Giants", and even "Wild Wild West". All were superior to LIS. All, with the exception of Wild Wild West, were Irwin Allen productions, as well. (You'll have fun seeing many of the same costumes, props, sets, and even sfx footage used between them.)
Other enjoyable sci-fi TV from that era would be any of the Gerry Anderson "Supermarionation" series shown on US TV at the time, such as "Supercar", "Fireball XL5", "Stingray", "Thunderbirds", or "Captain Scarlett".
Finally, Dr, Smith may have been effeminate. But, the gay character was obviously Don. Just ask Judy. She'll tell ya.
