Daddy's Deadly Secret (2024 TV Movie)
2/10
Poor writing, worse acting
24 June 2024
This is just a poorly made TV movie with a really bad script writing and terrible acting.

The film quality itself was not bad although the sound was a bit indistinct at times.

The plot concerns a father who is divorced and remarried with a daughter. He shares the daughter's custody with his wife and her new husband. They all seem to get along.

Until the daughter mysteriously disappears and the frantic search for her begins.

It's all muddled, the acting by just about everybody is terrible, stiff and unbelievable. The plot does not make a lot of sense.

I would not recommend this movie to anybody. It's a waste of your time that you will never get back.

White Lies (2024– )

Keeps you guessing right to the very end!

This is a much better than average TV murder mystery series. The murder mystery starts with the discovery of two murders in the same house. A newspaper reporter who is related to the victims and their family, begins investigating and almost immediately runs into opposition from a police detective that she has confronted before. Unfortunately for both of them, they discover that they need each other to solve the mystery which takes many twists and turns, some of them sordid. There is far more going on than you realize until all is uncovered. Everybody is hiding secrets. This is definitely worth watching.

Not bad but could have been better.
10 December 2023
First, this is a high quality production and the scenery is beaitiful. Even the actors are very good. The problem is with the story. The writers failed miserably in adapting the book.

After awhile, you begin to realize that they are rushing through the story line way too fast, missing details and cutting much of the essential sub plots and story lines that would have made this a truly great series. Six episodes was not enough to do justice to the book.

The big picture of who the Weerters are and the various factions within in them is missing. The story looses context. Yet, for all those failings, it is still an interesting story about a young man who has inherited the biggest fortune in history and the prophecy future he is asked to change.

The way the series ends leads to the possibilty that they might make a second series. I hope they do and use that opportunity to tell the part of the story from the book they left out. Hopefully they will use better writers. Anyway, buy the book this is based on and get the whole story. It's worth it.

A brilliant little movie
18 June 2023
Whether you are left or right, this movie is just brilliant. It is a high quality production but more importantly the two lead actors, Rico Reid and Josh Katawick, turn in strong, powerful performances.

It may or may not refer to the Trump years, on that you will have to draw your own conclusions.

Who is Amos Otis is both the title of the movie and the lingering question until the very end. Is Otis who he says he is and is he from where he claims to be? How that question is dealt with in the courtroom is the heart of the drama,

If you have a chance to see this production, then watch it. You won't regret it.

The Swarm (2023)

Stunningly beautiful
12 March 2023
While the end may leave you wanting a bit more, the entire first season is a visual masterpiece. The cinematography is just stunningly beautiful. Breath taking. The series follows the book very closely. The main story line begins in the Shetland Islands and then quickly travels the world from Germany to Norway to Japan, Canada and the Artic where a diverse group of scientists try to understand the reason behind a series of mysterious deaths and boat sinks across the world's oceans. They seem unconnected at first but the a few people begin to put the pieces together. The acting is above average for a TV mini-series. At times the plot bogs down a bit towards the end, but over all it captures the ecological disaster that is heading our way. I definitely recommend it just for the visuals alone.

Brilliantly written
18 September 2022
This is one of those rare productions where the writing is tight and well done. Each episode makes you want more. Sophie is told she tried to commit suicide but did she? She has no almost no memory of that day or her past life. She doesn't trust anyone, not even her husband who suddenly finds himself in trouble at work. Just when you think you know what is going on, you find out you really don't. It's a mystery where you can't see the ending coming until you get there. Gugu Mbatha-Raw gives an outstanding performance in the lead roles, as does Oliver Jackson-Cohen who plays her husband. Marianne Jean-Baptiste is particuliarly good as the therapist. Set time to binge watch this.

Murder Is Like Sex (2009 Video)
1/10
Terrible Movie
19 April 2009
A friend loaned me his copy of this movie. This is one of those truly awful movies shot by amateurs direct to video. Ham acting, dumb script, poor lighting. The basic plot, if you can call it that, is that of a store clerk who is a chronic masturbator who manages to make himself the suspect in a murder. Basically that is all there is to the story. There are few crude scenes with regards to the young mans habits (his hands are in his pockets a lot. Some women may be offended. About as erotic as a dead dog, this movie will not push your buttons and in fact may scare you off sex for the rest of your life. Long and boring, this is not worth a look even if you get it free. This seems to be the only movie directed by Keith Boron who also wrote the script. If we are all very lucky this will be the last one.
