It made me cry
24 March 2022
Something is so unique with this movie. Maybe it's the excellent portrayal of Sweden in the 70s, maybe it's the acting, the story, or the soundtrack. I don't know, but on a second watching years later this movie affected me deeply. It shows in a stark way how class divides can affect friendships but also how honesty and the somewhat naive goodness of a young man can spread to even a seemingly hardened man and bring forth the goodness in him.

An incredible metaphor for psychosis
7 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode just blew me away, so funny and exciting but best of all - so littered with symbolism that makes you think! I might be primed to see the episode in this way, because of my studies but the whole situation with parasites taking over the minds of the main characters and serving them false memories to be able to control them is a pretty good metaphor for psychosis - that is to lapse in to a state of delusion often with hallucinations! The parasites in that case are of course not space aliens but certain parts of the persons mind that destroys the persons capacity to have contact with, understand and think about reality. In this metaphor Rick serves as the only "sane" part of the psyche left which tries to take the person back to reality and sanity/kill the parasites but are heavily attacked by the other delusional parts of the psyche for doing that. Love what this show is doing with heavy subjects from psychology, philosophy and science!! :D

A beautiful and heartbreaking movie
17 March 2017
I first watched this movie the year it came out, but it made such a strong impact on me that I had to re watch it and now feel that it really deserves a review!

This film uses rich and long scenes to convey to the viewer the struggles of 15-year old Sebbe and his complex mum. The amazing acting and script made me really identify with the main character, Sebbe. I felt his loneliness, I felt his anger against the people around him and I felt his very mixed feelings towards his mother! This is not a film without happy and beautiful moments though, and I feel that their impact is the more strong, because how wisely they are chosen.

All in all I strongly recommend this ultra realistic depiction of the life of young Sebastian!
