Light of My Life (2019)
Good acting, good storyline but slow moving
As most reviews here, I was ready to tune off the first 8 or 10 minutes of the movie. In a nut shell, it's a father protecting his daughter 10 years after an apparent "plague" occurred and wiped out most women (if Mr Affleck had waited a couple more years perhaps he would have thought this through). At least that's the description of the film but there's no mention of that in the movie. Were they after women that were left after the "plague" to reproduce? Were they trying to kill them? They leave it to the audience to draw their own conclusions. Enjoyed the scenes of Father and daughter trying to survive but it was slow and the ending disappointing. We don't know how the women or at least the mom died....it was all so confusing. Give it a try at your own risk.
Escrava Isaura (1976)
Heart warming
I'm not into soap's and never considered "Escrava Isaura" as a soap opera. North American soap's go on forever and depending on the writers and characters you never know where the story begins or if it will ever end! Escrava Isaura is what I would call a mini-series. It's based on a book by Bernardo Guimaraes and takes place in Brazil during African slavery in the mid 1800's. Though not based on a true story but like the movie Titanic....it sunk but the love story between Jack & Rose was fictional. The story takes us to Isaura's pain in the hands of her master's son, her struggle for freedom and the dream of one day being with her true love. It's heart warming and heart wrenching. I loved it when it first aired in 1977 and still one of my favourites to this day.
