So refreshing to see good acting and drama back on screen! Madhuri is just stellar and story is engaging too..Her grace, her originality, her acting...she's just so classy! Also liked the acting of the other characters in the movie. Good job Karan Johar.

Superb story backed by tremendous performances
20 September 2020
Wow what a movie! Love how well the movie slowly reflects how the family tries to be happy but in reality it's a completely broken one. Everyone is trying to put up a good show but truly everyone is lying. It such a natural movie, in real life, there are many lives and families who are actually completely broken but seem to be the perfect happy family.

And now getting to the performances. For me the star performers were Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak and Fawad Khan. Their display of characters and emotions is exemplary and a assurance of the stardom they really have achieved to date. Alia, Siddharth Malthotra and Rajat Kapoor also ace their roles. And ofcourse, Fawad, Alia and Siddharth look great too.

Good work by Karan Johar and Dharma after a long time.

Wasted good talent - overacting
17 September 2020
This movie had so many superstars - Fawad Khan, Imran Abbas Naqvi, Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Lara Dutta... but seems like except Anushka and Ranbir, rest were used as side actors/special appearances.. I am surprised that heartthrobs like Fawad and Imran Abbas Naqvi even accepted these roles. Hardly enough of acting display..

The movie kicks off with excessive overacting by Lara Dutta, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma followed by Shahrukh Khan. Aishwarya acts ok and Ranbir and Anushka get better later in the movie. Story is big disappointment. Way too many stars raise audience expectations, but end up in dismay. The movie is based on romance but there's not much display of romance between Anushka and Fawad. And romance between Anushka and Ranbir is not impactful. Especially if you compare to some good work making romantic films by Karan Johar in the past - Kal ho na ho, Kabhi khushi Kabhi Gamm, Kuch kuch hota hai, this was a big disappointment.

Only saving grace is songs and partially good acting by Anushka and Ranbir.

Super hilarious and well made show
31 August 2020
This is one good break from the other serious dramas! It portrays the east vs west life very realistically and in a very light way. Lot of stereotypes of the eastern society and social issues have been presented in the most humorous way. The acting is outstanding by all 4 stars - Fawad, Sanam, Imran Abbas Naqvi and Humana Malik and supporting characters as well.

How can Fawad always act so perfectly! Fawad Khan is so outstanding even in a funny role. Fawad tried to display cheap romance and has his own materialistic motivations. Sanam acts brilliantly in a disguise role and pretends very well to be sweet and in good books of everyone. Imran Abbas in the serious Maulvi role who has his own views about western culture but then falls for Humaima after getting to know her transparent and true behavior. Humaima as the only person not putting up a show and portraying her real life and self. She has a true logic and doesn't worry about being in bad books. She portrays a true logic in every single situation. All 4 star players look beautiful and act spot on. In addition Biji, the moms and dads of the Akbar/Asgar and Akbari/Ashgari and Shabbo's mom and her have aced it!

Really well made drama and super funny.

Good movie, good acting
16 August 2020
Good movie after a while to watch with family especially daughters. Good story line by Karan Johan backed by very good acting by Janhvi and Pankaj. I like Janhvi's innocence and softness in this movie unlike many other actresses these days who tend to overact.

So many times in the movie, one will end up crying. I wonder why people cannot keep the whole nepotism debate aside and give a chance to new budding actors to display talent! Honestly this movie is very good.

Mahesh Bhatt, Sanju and Kumar Gaurav stunner
28 May 2020
What a brilliant piece of work by Mahesh Bhatt to start with. Such a great movie one can relate to - completely different from larger than life stories. Such touching dialogues.. Aadmi Karz toh chuka sakta hei, ehsaan nahi.... Ravi mujhe bacha le Ravi, mei bahut thak gaya hu .. list is endless

Class acting by both Sanjay Dutt and Kumar Gaurav! A person who has stood by Sanju in real life and reel life. Also great acting by Amrita Singh when she asks Kumar Gaurav to save Sanju.. Last but not the least.. Chitthi aayi hei song... Must have heard it 1000 times atleast! So emotional and beautiful..

Overall a great once in lifetime type movie, such a great depiction of importance of close relationships in life

Ranveer Singh and Zoya Akhtar masterpiece
30 April 2019
What a great movie to watch! Ranveer Singh has struck a golden and mindblowing performance again.. The plot keeps you engaged, songs are entertaining. While Ranveer steals the show, Alia and other supporting roles have also done their bit to put up a great show. Love the direction. The movie keeps you interested till the end. Amazing that it made it's way to Amazon Prime so fast.

Sad

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is really boring. I wasted like so much money to watch it first day first show after reading the rave reviews on internet! I wonder how people could stand the movie. It has no story, no plan, no direction ! Yawn...Gosh I wonder how I actually went through the torture. Just adding 3 languages to the movie does not make it watchable and enjoyable! People staying US hear enough Spanish. I would say that 2 songs in this movie are good, but it simply lacks a good storyline. Some characters like Gina have no essence in the movie. Random events take place. I wonder why the heroine locks Hritik alone and then goes on to suicide. They could have together jumped off the cliff.

This movie really was not up to my expectations. I would not recommend it.
