Heroes (2008)
It was FUN watchin it..
Boy i went to the theatre s*** scared fearing that bollywood will let the hell of boredom loose on me. But wat i get is a completely different film. A new concept tried is being tried over here. The movie tells the story of a 2 young men who go on a roadtrip to India and find our home made real life heroes. Wat i like about the movie is the entire feel they have given to it. Fun with some melodrama(not the usual one!!)and fun. Good thing about this movie is that they have not tried to convey a heavy message to the youth by using heavy dialogues n all. I am telling you seeing the fun these guys do while on a road trip on their bike..i am going to get me a bike and hit the roads. Explore the country and meet people of all the places. Believe me this film is not the usual run of the mill type bollywood film. Every actor has played their part with uplomb charisma and expertise. Sohail khan is real fun. The crazy whacky guy image suits him. I think for the first time i have seen sohail khan doing a role that has carved out for him and he has done justice to it. There are some beautiful shots of the Indian countryside. I am impressed by the director's use of visuals. Big things are said in a passing that's the USP of the film. Youngsters like me are busy trying to enter the rat race and become a part of the flock. This movie has given me motivation to do what i like the most. Finally i would like to say that this guy has done a great job breaking the mould of current Indian trend of storytelling which is marred by pointless terrorist attack films and other page 3 films. So i am giving him a high rating of 9 out of 10.
Californication (2007)
Intellectually Gratifying!!
It all started with Duchovy getting a bl****** from a hot blonde. I must confess that all the sex scenes are handled very intelligently and sometimes with loads of humor esp. the one in which hez seen getting punched a young woman. Then out of nowhere you realize that hez a guy who has a family which has broken because of his philandering. I like the way the daughter and father relationship is shown. They are shown to be frens. Duchovy is shown as a person who is hell bent on ruining his life but that;s one side of him..his reaction to his wife leaving him. He so very loves her that everything seems to be secondary in front of the agony of separation and seeing her getting married to another person. Everything seems so real that i could not point out a single thing that would not/could not happen with a ordinary person like me. It is so close to reality. Everyone is shown with their grey sides. Everyone is weak or more human than any other series on the block. Being from India this is was a great cultural experience for me coz i got some real insight of the society people live in. This was completely different from the ones portrayed by the movies and hell lot of other soap operas. This show has everything from entertainment to real serious philosophies. It never questions you anything but it gets you to a corner and leave you with no choice but to ponder upon the intricacies of life. Life is complex...this series doesnot make it a bit simple yet it very simply and subtly portrays the complexity on the screen. I am eagerly waiting for the 2nd season and see how the protagonist is able to cope up with the marital bliss that he is blessed with for a 2nd time.
A Wednesday (2008)
Excellent, Brilliant and Mind Blowing!!
Seriously after watching the movie i felt that my mind has been blown. You see two stalwarts of Indian cinema, Anupam kher and Nasserudin shah, stealing the show. These two actors have proved why they are so admired and loved. After a lot of pushing from one of my frens did i watch this movie coz i was bored off seeing all the "sensitive bomb aftermath" stuff. But this had a completely new take on the subject and i really liked the way the subject was handled. I watched it for the first time, then for a second time and again for a third time...i feel like watching it over and over again. It;s the story of a common man's reply to terrorism and giving them a taste of their own medicine. I must say a must watch for every one...and also a must watch for the ones who want respite from the age old johar and barjatya stuff... More of a Indian version of righteous kill but has nothing to do with the plot of the movie.
