God's Not Dead (2014)
Sad to see all the negative Reviews.... The movie's message at it's core is wonderful
Reading thru the reviews - most people who have rated this movie a 1 or just poorly did so because they are also trying to slam Christianity. The movie fairly portrays the difficulty Christians have in a "progressive" culture and society.... for proof - just wait until the end of the movie and read the long list of court cases that Christians and Christian groups have successfully litigated against schools, universities, and other organizations that routinely show outrageous bias, prejudice, and essentially "prosecutorial" behavior against Christians. Granted - the whole thing with the duck dynasty guy the way it is thrown into the movie seems Cheesy, as does the car scenes with the two pastors trying to get to Disney World. BUT - the core message is wonderful! If you are a Christian, WATCH the movie - it is wonderful. If you are wondering about God - watch the movie - it will help you. If you are not a Christian... again, watch the movie. It makes the truth very clear - This life will pass away for every single one of us eventually - and then what? If you think you just cease to exist - you better hope you are right, because if you're wrong, you will be wrong for the remainder of eternity and you will be doomed.
Altered Carbon (2018)
Has incredible potential, but so far, it is a HUGE disappointment
Having been a Blade Runner fan for the last 25+ years, I waited nearly that long for Blade Runner 2049 to be produced and released. By any measure, the 2nd installment of that movie franchise was nothing short of phenomenal. So a few months back when I saw the pre-release trailer for the Netflix Original title "Altered Carbon", I was excited about the news. Clearly, Blade Runner influenced and provided some of the forward looking and cinematic elements used in A.C. Fast forward to 2FEB18 when I watch episode 1. Wow... I was so sadly disappointed. The budget that went into making this series clearly was generous. The cinematic and effects - all well done for a "television" series. The story line - like Blade Runner or the Matrix - has great potential to delight viewers. So, what's wrong with the Netflix produced series A.C.? The thing that destroys this entire series is Joel Kinnaman's depiction of the character Takeshi Kovacs. Kovacs is supposed to be a former member of the "Envoy Corps", an elite military intelligence force who left the envoys to become a mercenary. What does Kovacs do in episode 1 almost as soon as he was "re-sleeved" 250 years in the future?.... he runs off and buys a Hello Kitty backpack full of futuristic drugs and proceeds to go off on a psychedelic trip. Wow.... Doesn't say much for the elite "Envoy Corps" MI folks of the future. Kovac's character as depicted in A.C. has no depth. He runs around like an 18 year old barely post-pubescent teenage boy... not a hardened military operative turned mercenary of the future. Netflix set out to make a cyberpunk sci-fi Noir film, but they framed the central figure of the story not as a fascinating or remarkable man of mystery who possesses compelling strength of character. Instead, the central figure is a man of weak moral character whose highest aspiration seems to be doing drugs, indulging in depravity, and wanting to go "back on ice" because he has nothing to live for and no driving motivation that makes him or the story compelling or worthy of viewers' screen time. I don't fault the actor Joel Kinnaman, rather it is the story writers and the director fault that the central figure and the story is such a mess. Had hoped the main character was more like a Rick Deckard or a Thomas A. Anderson... neither of which would have run off with a bunch of drugs in a pink hello kitty backpack. Sorry - just could make it past the 2nd episode. WHAT A WASTE.
Time to Choose (2015)
Please, please, please Spare Me
More leftist drivel.... Take out your Brain - Wash it - reinsert into Cranium. Oscar Isaac did a fine job narrating the film, but it is completely one sided - it does not present evidence (or lack thereof) that in fact - the climate always changes, has always changed, and will continue to do so... last time the Earth spontaneously warmed up from the last Ice Age, I'm pretty sure the Industrial Evolution had not yet occurred, and predated Humans' ability to potentially affect the environment. Suspect Al Gore helped fund this Movie. Would like to have seen an evenly balanced presentation of the facts - to include a discussion of scientifically proved phenomena that affects global climate change over many millenniums to include cyclical variations in Earth's axial tilt, orbital eccentricity, Precession of solstices and equinoxes, and External/Celestial forces.
