An acting Tour de Force by Amy Adams. She shows her personal bravery simply by taking ON this project...all actors prove their accomplished credentials, as they all shine. But Adams is central and brilliant...she all but creates new emotions as she plumbs all the known ones.

SURPRISING AGAINST TYPE WESTERN WITH GOOD CHARACTERIZATIONS

Joel McCrea plays an embittered Sergeant thrust into a leadership role, for which he is uniquely prepared, but ill-suited. Many (If not all roles.) veteran actors doing very competent jobs. Unusual for a western is that almost no one is The Good Guy - with one or two who are, and they are surprises. Great ending. Gritty. Better than its stature herein IMDb... Catch it if you can. I ran across it willy nilly, a few frames in - captivated me.

Not a classic- brutal, cruel, B movie with non-standard features.
