Hope and Glory (1987)
What a joy
What a joy this film is, every time I watch it it's just as fresh as the first time. The acting is first class and I can relate so easily to it being a lad of five myself at the time, also it has a most lovely musical score.
The scenes in London are so true to the war years, and the bombed houses and children collecting shrapnel I remember well and those long hot summers are something I will always recall and although the world was caught up in terror and death it was something that in the end you just had to accept, but I have to say for a 5 year old boy it was So exciting.
Sadly AGAIN another British Movie you can't buy in the U.K at the moment although thankfully it does quite often get an airing on TV.. Don't miss this one ! SUPERB ! ! !
John and Julie (1955)
If only we could buy it in the U.K !
Firstly...WHY OH WHY OH WHY cant we buy this film in the U.K ? So many excellent British films are just not available here.
OK rant over. I've seen this film a couple of times on TV albeit a long time ago.
The story evolves around two children " John and Julie " who run away to London to see the Queens Coronation. Their parents are content to watch it on television but the children have other ideas..So the story unfolds with many lovely adventures along the way.
This is a film that most every child would love, without the violence and bad language many of them are subjected to today.
If you can get it then do ! you wont regret it.
While I Live (1947)
Great Film
I've seen this film dozens of times, albeit that the music "The Dream of Olwen" is the most haunting and beautiful piece and holds this film together, the acting and story line I find entertaining and most pleasant...It's a GREAT pity they don't make films like this now, instead of the some of the TRASH that is churned out.
I hope this film will soon be put to DVD and available in England. So many fine British films never seem to find their way to DVD of even become available to the British public
If you like truly great music (Written by Charles Williams) and a light yet very watchable film then this is for you, a haunting film that you will recall, and watch time and again..Excellent !
