The Blacklist: Godwin Page (No. 141) (2021)
Another character study
So. This is it. The moment Keen has been waiting for. After countless episodes of her moaning about not getting the truth from Reddington - who kept saying that it is dangerous, her defying him just to be proved that she does, indeed, lose friends and family whenever she does so - he now tells her that he will tell her the truth.
Of course he tried to tell her parts of it before, but then she always interrupted him instead of listening, so now this is the first time she will actually learn something.
There is only one way for her to react to that, given her character. As soon as she knows she will learn about the truth, she activactes a tracking device to allow Townsend to kill Reddington.
Townsend being the man who just tried to kill her, and Reddington being the one who saved her from that.
It is all perfectly in character for her.
It is just unfortunate that her character is terrible. 10 points for Reddington beginning to show us the truth, -5 points for Keen. On average, that would leave us with 2.5 points, but I'll award an extra 2.5 points to Gryffindor for Red being a cool character: 5 stars!
The Blacklist: 16 Ounces (2021)
If only we could go back to hunting villains, and put Keen into a coma
The problem with Keen's downfall - that is, her path towards being an insufferable character, a turncoat and both incredibly suspicious of everybody AND gullible as a seagull at the same time - is that it's not just one character in the show that deteriorates over time.
Every time she hoodwinks Aram, who is already a very intelligent, but socially inept person, she makes him look more like an idiot.
And every time she goes back to Ressler, this character - once a good agent with a spine - falls for her tears, and still helps her. What's an attempted murder among friends?
My favourite dialogue in this episode:
Ressler: "You almost killed me!"
Too Keen: "Yes, but did you see my Baaambi eyes?"
The previous episode got 5 stars from me. For this one, I need to subtract one star because Red is barely on it, but I'll add one star because Keen To Betray does not get to whine as much as in the previous one.
One more "favourite" dialogue, though:
Too Keen: "I need you to help commit a murder"
Esi: "Uh, no?"
Too Keen: "But he will kill you anyway!"
Esi: "Ok, I can do it"
Too Keen: "Wait, what? Why would you do that?"
The Blacklist: Katarina Rostova (No. 3): Conclusion (2020)
Show great, Keen bad
The show is great, but this is another episode of Liz not actually listening when she is tolds secrets. Instead, she interrupts to complain that nobody tells her. Then she goes on to accuse everybody else for her actions. She never stops to think if the things she gets told by the people that forgive all of her betrayals might actually be true, while being ready to believe whatever people tell her while using her gullibility.
Now, the show is great because of the main character, Reddington. But it could be much better if somebody shut up Keen - maybe gag her whenever she is in any conversation with Red, Dembe, Ressler or any other person that actually mean her well.
This episode gets 9 stars for Red (there are many episodes where he gets 10, but he does not get any opportunity to shine here), and 1 star for Keen-To-Switch-Sides, so 5 stars on average.
The one thing this episode does well is giving us more hints if our suspicions about the secret are true. Even if Miss Complaint does not listen.
Supergirl: Menagerie (2019)
Back to strange decisions
While otherwise an interesting episode, it appears the writers got the last minute task to end the Lena/James relationship.
When Lena still ponders a business opportunity, James does not just tell her to reject it - he immediately tells her, out of the blue, that he would not support her in any way if she accepted it. To which she readily jumps, asking whether he would rather end it. Neither of them even consider that she could just reject the offer. Later we see that she has decided to accept it now - which she clearly had not so far.
So she accepted the offer because she broke up with James, and broke up with James because she accepted the offer.
