Marry Me (2022)
8/10
An enjoyable romantic comedy.
17 September 2022
Thoroughly enjoyed this, it's a romantic comedy and doesn't try to be anything else. Both of the leads give great performances, J-Lo looks great and showed real emotion. Owen Wilson looks like Owen Wilson and handles his part perfectly. The supporting cast is great and are pretty much all bar the obvious one, pleasantly positive characters. It really is a feel good film to watch as a couple. Sure it's formulaic, but it's an enjoyable watch and is purely for entertainment, it's not trying to change the world. It's a Romcom with J-LO and Owen Wilson, and you get what you pay for, and at just short of two hours it doesn't out stay it's welcome.

Stick with it, builds well.

Yeah it's another one based on the Groundhog idea, but it comes up with some interesting plot twists and keeps you wanting to watch. Obviously it's low budget but they really do well with what they've got. Worth your time.

The Big Year (2011)

Enjoyable with easily likable characters
18 April 2012
I really enjoyed this, it's very gentle and not a laugh a minute romp, but I found myself caring about them all. The cinematography is beautiful, as are the birds and the story moves along briskly enough with an excellent soundtrack. Steve Martin, Owen Wilson and Jack Black give great performances and between them make this a wonderful film. Jack Black was easily believable as the average guy and this was some of the best acting I've seen from him. Owen Wilson likewise is perfectly believable as a driven and very flawed several times married birder. Steve Martin was so gentle in his acting it almost looks like he doesn't try, just perfect for this role. I loved it.

Stay Cool (2009)
8/10
Well worth an hour and a half of your time.

Warning: Spoilers
This film left me liking Henry and Scarlett a lot. Yes its clichéd and yes its unrealistic, but its a comedy, maybe a gentle comedy, but comedy none the less. Everybody has baggage left over from school/college, and this taps into that. Chevy Chase playing the principal was over the top, but thats what he does best. Hillary Duff looked gorgeous and so did Winona Ryder. And they played their parts well. They could easily have got another hour out of this and I would still have wanted more but maybe i'm just a big softy. Its easy to get hung up on details that don't ring true in movies but this does enough right to forgive its faults. Give it a go.

A horrible glimpse of the 80's
30 August 2010
I will start by saying I wanted to like it. On paper it should be good, all the stars and a good budget. But its terrible. The plot is laughable, it makes Rambo look worthy of an Oscar. The characters were probably found on the pages of some remaindered comic books. The action scenes are Boys own stuff so I have given it 5, but it really is awful in every other respect. Slys acting is sort of Joey Tribiani doing Days of Our Lives. With lots of guns. There is quite a bit of useless padding in the film, the bits with Arnie, Bruce and Micky Rourke. All of these pieces are completely pointless, and Arnie seems to have added a new layer of extra woodiness. Unless you have exceptionally low standards you will be disappointed. You have been warned.......
