The Model (1994)
10/10
Wonderful adaptation of Malamud's short story "The Model."
4 June 2009
Director Jonathan Borough and Cinematographer Simon Riera create haunting, elegant visuals that capture nuanced performances by the film's two leads.

The palette is earthy, grainy, with stunning static compositions and meticulously-constructed actor blocking. The sound design is intimate. We hear the sounds the little objects in the room make - the ones we normally don't pay attention to.

This film will transport you to the aged living room of a lonely man who yearns to live again. It's the type of film that makes your skin feel like the barometric pressure has dropped outside, and that a stormfront might be moving in.

This film is courageous and bold, and yet profoundly simple.
