The Cave (III) (2019)

One of the better true life films I've seen
18 January 2023
The first thing to understand with this film is that it is based on multiple accounts from those involved in the rescue. As such it is seen mostly from their point of view. It doesn't connect perfectly with the Thai team, but does a good job explaining how the rescue happened. Meanwhile, by using many of the real actual rescuers, it brings in the actual story lines for those involved. They are also more likely to remember how they "played" the scene at the time. When it comes down to it, professionals tend to play things straight in the real world...they don't display all the emotions Hollywood expects. So, having met most of the people involved, I'm more of the opinion that maybe the reviews are about industry issues over use of real people without the right acting permit/membership. Everyone can claim it was all in the news, but what you see in this film was not. There are personal, professional and political issues, all of which can be learnt from for future similar events. I'm more impressed by the fact they actually rescued people bearing in mind the challenges, and that the film was allowed to be made bearing in mind some of the criticisms it made that other productions have not. Meanwhile I'd prefer to see the real heroes in these types of films where possible. OK, it runs the risk that they may depict themselves in a better light, but so does using actors.

Game, Set, Love (2022 TV Movie)
About as much knowledge of tennis displayed as I have about American football
18 January 2023
While I enjoy many of the Hallmark movies, this was a total fail due to lack of research. You need to win 6 games to win the set. You need 3 sets to win the match. The far right screen stays at 40 on both players the entire time. Next shot in either result is game. The next shot EVERY time in the film script should actually give the entire match to the other team. Why people were tasked with this movie and no research team is beyond me. It would be like me making a movie about American football, even though I've never seen a match (actually as I understand it, scripting that may be easier...I just add loads of advert breaks?). However, I still wouldn't know how to do the scoring without visiting something simple like the Tennis Scoring System on Wikipedia. Aside from such a MAJOR mistake for international audiences, where we DO play tennis, I think the comments over story and characters in other reviews are also well made.
